Has anyone been to Graceland?

I am thinking of taking a trip to Memphis and visiting the iconic mansion.

I would love to hear your comments (both good and bad) about the famous Presley home/landmark.

A friend and I went about 20 years ago so things might have changed. I had a good time. I could be mis-remembering some of this. You start out across from Graceland where they have an Elvis museum with a lot of his cars and gold records, etc. If I remember correctly, you take a bus over to Graceland and take a guided tour. It was pretty cool. It ends at the graves. You can also go on The Lisa Marie airplane.

It was crowded when we went so it took awhile to get into Graceland. I can't remember how many people they take at a time.

Elvis stuff was all over the area - lots of Elvis impersonators, Elvis stores, everything Elvis. We also visited Nashville while we were there which was a lot of fun too.

One other thing I remember is how many international fans were there. It was fun talking to people from other countries. So many people across the World loved Elvis.

I am just looking for some vacation ideas. I need to escape La La Land (aka California), and I have always wanted to visit Graceland and Tennessee

I click on the Graceland Gam everyday, and wish I was there. I absolutely love the trees that surround the property. So beautiful

I am from Memphis. I have posted some other things about Graceland on other posts here if you want to research what I said.

I have never been in the house but once as a child I was on the property where Elvis and his parents were buried. My late mother was in the house and said it was basically a big house, not a mansion perse. None the less it had to be somewhat interesting since we drove by it all the time growing up, since we only lived a few miles away in the same part of the city.

I will advise to try to park your car in a designated place at the property if you can. The surrounding neighborhood is not good (anymore) and it is ran down and crime ridden. Don’t buy gas or eat in a restaurant nearby. I mean, more than likely nothing will happen but there is more of a chance it will there than other places. I was actually mugged once about a mile away although that was sort of my fault (and that was about 25 years ago).

I have said this before but if Elvis never died, I think he would have sold that property years ago and moved to Las Vegas. Like I said, the surrounding neighborhood is bad plus it is about two miles from the airport with FedEx planes screaming overhead all night long. Elvis would have moved to Las Vegas or California by the 1990’s if he lived more than likely.

I can totally see Elvis living in Las Vegas. I know he owned two properties in California, one Holmby Hills (near Beverly Hills), and another house in Palm Springs. I do not know why anyone with any amount of money would want to live in California. We are infested with crime and the homelessness is becoming scary. Most of my family has left to live in other states to escape the craziness hence the reason for my moniker for California (LaLa Land).

I'm big fan of Elvis and visited Graceland back in the 90's. Cool thing about Graceland is that they left everything untouched the way Elvis left it back in 70's. You walk into time capsule when you walk in the Graceland with old TVs, recording equipment and household gadgets.

He was the first pop star. Cliff Richard once said had there been no Elvis there would have been no Cliff. He was charismatic, a crowd-pleaser, I'm nostalgic for the time, such a shame how he ended up, reminding me of that other giant, Roy Orbison. So sad about Lisa too.
