I was thinking about this one the other day....what is "welsh rarebit"? And does it really cause nightmares?

I think the "nightmares" aspect was just a plot device. Although some recipes call for beer to be added.
Think melted cheddar cheese with a touch of mustard and a hint of Worstershire sauce, and yer pretty close. If you took 8 oz of melted cheddar, mixed in just enough melted butter (or beer) to make the cheese pourable. Add a tablespoon of mustard and a teaspoon of Worstershire....you'd be pretty darned close And then what I would usually do is make an open face bacon and tomato sandwich on toast, and pour the welsh rarebit over it. |

I think this is one of the funniest episodes, with Gomer mouthing off to Sgt. Carter as a side effect from eating Welsh Rarebit.

Then I found an internet group full of people complaining about Stouffer's dropping the product....and one if the group members was advocating Worstershire sauce as an ingredient. And sure enough....it was just the thing my recipe was missing. It's odd, because there rally isn't enough there to distinctly taste it, it just kinda blends in to the other flavors |

I actually saw that episode first run over fifty years ago and still never got around to Googling Welsh Rarebit yet. Great to learn something new every day. |
