Default Bob Stack Appreciation Thread - What's Your Favorite Quote?

Just to get the conversation started what are some of your favorite Bob Stacks quotes?

He was such a polarizing host and I loved how he dedicated himself to UM. He was very much invested and it was not just a job for him.

My love for trench coats comes from Bob he was a gentleman of a certain age who dressed in a style that complimented him well.

Its wild because a huge reason no UM reboot or remake can be successful is because Bob set the bar so high.

The only person I even considered personally to take the reigns was Dennis Haysbert (who has gone on to host an ID show I believe). In no way is he Bob, but he reminds me of Bob with his low serious voice and poised (calm, cool and collected) persona.

Bob really never got recognized by the industry for his contributions to UM. Bob deserved multiple Emmy's for his UM run. I'm sure he even took paycuts when the show started gong to other networks and even stayed when they forced him to have a companion on air thinking a younger woman would drive up ratings. Bob stayed the course.

What an amazing guy and talent. UM, Cops and America's Most Wanted put so many shows on the map and was a cultural movement.

I'm really excited for this UM docu and I hope they can get one of Bob's close friends or relatives to speak on his behalf.

Bob was perfectly content being the UM man.

His legacy lives on through Peacock, Youtube, those old VHS tape rips we are still trading and the nostalgia of his mysterious aura.

Salute.

"You may be able to help solve a mystery"

Stack was very much a gentlemen of a bygone era that fit the show so well. Making him have a co-host was an insult, he didn't need it and he was not behind the ratings slump.

"Gene Baxter and Kevin Ryder were lying."

So blunt, so cold, so damn true.

Now I’ve been here all day and I haven’t seen a single ghost.

I like that one because I’ve heard he wasn’t a big fan of the ghost segments.

Everyone assumed Paul had written the Circleville Letters and everyone assumed with Paul behind bars the letters would stop.

Everyone was wrong.

I'm probably getting it totally wrong but from the coin scam:

That was a great one. He told it like it was. These days, a host wouldn't outright call someone out like that, but instead they would dance around the issue by throwing around qualifiers like 'allegedly', 'supposedly', etc.

One of my favorite Stack quotes is from one of his UM narrations.

I love this one from the Charlie Sigmin case:

"Charlie Sigmin lived in Blytheville, Arkansas. He was a kind man with strong religious beliefs. But Charlie was a man unlucky in love. Married and divorced twice, he dispaired of finding the right woman, until he met Ann. This time Charlie thought he had finally found happiness. He was wrong."

The way Stack emphasises the word 'wrong' really hits.

That is true. He didn't believe ghosts were real. Didn't buy it for a second. Thought they were fake or, I don't know, but for sure he didn't believe in them. I don't know how he felt about other supernatural occurrences.

I guess one of my favorite quotes were "Give us the money, or we'll blow your brains out."

I've tried to watch his other movies and interviews, but the more I watch, the more I feel like I should be watching UM, so I never get very far because I just turn off what I'm watching and put on some UM.

I've got to find his book "Sharp Shooter" or whatever it was called.
