Default The official "Will the NY Jets ever make the playoffs?" thread

Downsides are he's 40, coming off a thumb injury, is kind of a weird guy, and this could all go wrong for so many reasons (plus the Jets message board I read is screaming the Jets overpaid)

BUT HOLY CHEESEHEAD, AARON RODGERS IS THE NEW JETS QUARTERBACK!!

Packers trade Aaron Rodgers to Jets

I knew something was happening when I saw the David Letterman channel upload.

I wonder how much he has left in the tank. He has looked disinterested at times the last few seasons. Maybe a change of scenery will reenergize him. I could see them winning 10 games and making the playoffs.

The Jets had to do this, in so many ways the team is the face of failure in the NFL.

In the last 50 years they have made only four appearances in the AFC conference final, losing all four times. They haven't made the postseason in 12 seasons, in all that time they have had 1 winning season. In 6 of the last 7 seasons they have finished last in their division with double digit losses in each of those seasons. In 34 of the last 50 seasons they failed to have a winning record, I think I've made my point.

The owner can't continue to sell the sun will come out tomorrow to fans who haven't seen the sun rise on a Super Bowl team since Lyndon Johnson was President.

And I've seen all of it. Well, most of it. Too young to remember Namath's heydey (although he's still rockin' the medicare ads)

Your location says New Jersey. Anywhere near East Rutherford?

I have to concur about The Jets being mostly a horrible franchise, who have not been to a Super Bowl since Joe Namath was the Quarterback. The Jets have had some good years but have not won it all in fifty years, and frankly it is a crappy franchise and don’t really understand why this is.

Or really, why do fans bother watching them?

I have not really kept up with NFL (I am a college football fan however), but getting a what, a 40 year old QB is a right move? It goes without saying (although I will) that any sport, and this includes football has to have all the pieces together to function.

These NFL players and I am sure Rodgers are paid millions a year but how much is enough? I can say on one level I am concerned about guys like him and Tom Brady (who retired after being the oldest player in the league) who keep playing this game year after year after year. For over twenty years in college and pros, Rodgers has been chased and thrown on turf by men larger than 1970’s Buicks. These guys play 16 games, and say they get knocked down ten times a game. That is 160 times a year. Think about getting knocked down by a large dude once a day for six months.

But yeah, I am from Memphis and my city wanted an NFL team for years. Someone told us the Jets were for sale. We went “We don’t want the NFL that bad!”

I would think that most NFL fans in Memphis are already followers of the Tennessee Titans. As long as that franchise is there, the state seems unlikely to gain a 2nd team.

NFL has gone to 17 regular season games now.

Not really, I'm well south of there. That said, Jersey is ranked 47 of the 50 states in terms of size, I think the state is about 80 miles wide and 175 miles long, so really how far is any one point from another.

Normally the NFL doesn’t even allow their announcers to mention the Jets on national broadcasts. This year they have them scheduled two Sunday night games, two Monday night games, a Thursday night game, and some funkadelic Black Friday afternoon thing on Amazon.

Just asking but do idiots run the front office of the New York Jets? Here is a franchise, basically based in America’s largest city who hasn’t won the Super Bowl for over fifty years. It is always funny watching NFL draft day because the Jets always make boneheaded picks which pisses off the fans in attendance.

Just saying but the Jets are a joke franchise much like the Browns and the Lions.

The media are playing up the Jets as a Super Bowl contender for the upcoming season. We'll see if they're as good as advertised, or if it's just more big-media-market bias.

Their star corner Sauce Gardner is on the cover of this month's Sports Illustrated mag, even though as pointed out in this thread the franchise hasn't accomplished much in decades. They've actually had 2 good drafts in a row now, but drafting well doesn't always translate to winning playoff games.

Drafting well is the actually the key thing in any sport to long term playoff success. The Jets problem is they rarely draft well. Take Zach Wilson. Please. Take him.

Yeah, I subscribe to SI. Sauce was in my mailbox this week.
