Default Will Catchy Comedy be a competitor to Laff?

I think so; actually, I think that the competition is already over and Catchy Comedy has won it. Laff gave up the ghost when it replaced Night Court with public domain material.

I don't think ALF (weekdays in the 11AM hour replacing the first part of Night Court) is public domain material. ALF is still a good classic 80s sitcom it is nice that LAFF added. And they have still been better to Home Improvement than so many other channels, HI remains a key primetime player for them.

Just like Laff, I think CC will eventually have to modify its lineup. On the weekends, Laff has switched to comedy movies in the primetime hours.

I think Catchy Comedy is more supposed to be a competitor for Antenna TV than Laff, but with Laff starting to tank in the ratings lately it wouldn't be surprising to me if they just ended up retooling their lineup and format entirely. Laff was good probably up until 2018, and after that it really hasn't been as good as one of their main draws was rarer, but still relatively mainstream, sitcoms like Ellen, Empty Nest, The Drew Carey Show, Spin City, etc. They've lost a lot, and lost a lot of appeal, and people who are attracted to the 50s-90s sitcoms will likely be more attracted to Catchy Comedy than Laff.

ALF isn't public domain but is frequently aired in syndication, especially in the past 10 years with MeTV and The Hub. The public domain stuff the OP is talking about is Laff's failed attempt at a "vintage sitcom" block on Saturday and Sunday mornings with repeats of public domain episodes and poor quality at that of shows like The Lucy Show, Petticoat Junction, and The Beverly Hillbillies--an oh so failed attempt at stealing away viewers from MeTV and Decades which has NOT worked at all. Laff has soo many problems, and Home Improvement doesn't matter in their case. It's been played pretty much endlessly in syndication for years. ALF will likely join Catchy Comedy in the future, and like I said, has aired on MeTV for a while in the past and was likely a cheap pickup anyway. I foresee Catchy Comedy getting significantly better ratings than Laff and it will be interesting to see at the end of the year. PD is free and a sign of Laff's ultimate design or reformatting.

I'm really going to miss some of the hour long drama binges that Decades ran once in a while, like Barnaby Jones, Cannon, etc.

I agree Catchy Comedy competes more with Antenna than Laff at the moment. Laff has some newer shows (How I Met Your Mother, That 70's Show) but has less content in general, with the few shows being repeated more throughout the day.

Interestingly, Laff is owned by Katz which is owned by Scripps, and its parent company could invest more in it and easily make it superior to both Antenna/Rewind and Catchy Comedy.

It could go either way, but I wish it added more classics, or shows from before the 90's. With more shows and an improved lineup, FrndlyTV would add it, as that carrier already carries ION and Grit. It likely passed on Laff since Laff didn't have enough of interest.
