Fifty years ago on March 23, TV's longest running game show at that time Concentration aired its final episode after 15 years on NBC. It was the first show under new Daytime VP Lin Bolen's reign to get the ax. Here's a link to my blog entry on the end of an era.

I keep getting a message saying "Server Not Found" >:-(. I wanted to say that Concentration's being axed was the beginning of the decline, and ultimate demise of NBC Daytime.

Not to speak ill of the deceased…. I will just say….

Obviously Lin B didn’t like game shows, or at least older ones. She insisted on any hosts to be in leisure suits or whatever…. and didn’t she create at least 1 soap opera? I know she created the game show “Stumpers” with Allen Ludden.

She also changed the original “Jackpot” with Geoff Edwards by changing riddles to Hollywood Squares-style questions.

I read that Norm Blumenthal (“Concentration” rebus designer) and Bolen got verbally into-it about maybe a prize of a car. I’m sure you can search. But needless to say, daytime was a rocky road at NBC at the time.

So do I. Concentration was a classic game show and with all the revivals in prime time, it deserves another shot.

NBC has all rights to the “Concentration” format. I think I saw (maybe on NBC’s site) where a few game show ideas (including a new version of the show) were toyed with.

I know that I am no longer in the demographic they’re looking at….so I can almost assure you that whatever they do will definitely NOT be the 1958-73 version.

A bonus game will for-sure be on the table.

Maybe another “clock round” to make matches as fast as possible to win another grand prize like a car.

And….heaven forbid….

Celebrity Concentration!! 😝
