I think yes, it does help greatly if you want to be in certain professions to have a famous or elite parent who are in the field, but in the end, the child has to make it for themselves. Hollywood and the Entertainment industry is very, very competitive. It is make or break.

I think it can be argued that Jeff and Beau Bridges are very competant in their craft and careers. So was Jane and Peter Fonda. I think Lloyd probably supported strongly his sons but Henry Fonda really didnt. From a lot of accounts, the elder Fonda was somewhat abusive, a jerk and not much of a family man.

I will bring up Tom Hanks and his actor son Colin. Tom Hanks has been a huge A lister for decades but Colin is basically a TV character actor. Not that he hasnt been a success in his own right and he has, and his father has helped him, but Colin is a minor leaguer next to his father. Colin will never be his father, and it's not because he isnt a good actor, but he isnt his father.

I am a big Don Rickles fan and I saw his daughter on stage once, and man, she was awful. It wasnt insult humor like Don, but, I dont know what it was. It wasnt obscene, it just was not good. I havent heard from her since, maybe she is out there trading on her father's name on the comedy club circuit, but she will never be what her father was because simply, she lacks talent.

Will Smith has a son, that Will has in his films, but the kid is still a relative unknown, because the movie he was in wasnt good and failed.

Mike Wallace the newsman and his son Chris. For the last time, Chris had to prove himself and has and has been a success for decades. But Mike Wallace never did had so much clout in the news industry to push his son, if his son lacked the intelligence, drive and voice for the job.

In the end, parents can help, but the child has to do the work and perform up to task.

Tim Conway's one son, Tim Jr has a 2 hr slot on my local radio every day....he's done some acting, but Tim Jr loves the horses too much....and loses $$$.
