wasn't that an old radio or TV show or an old movie?

As much as I like Jackie Gleason I actually prefer the William Bendix version.

I remember the Bendix series from reruns when I was a kid, but they never reran the Gleason version. Wasn't that on the old DuMont network--and many shows were live, therefore lost?

These exist, some on youtube and DVD, and look surprisingly good for the era.

It was a radio show. Bendix was the lead. Gleason filled from time to time on radio then starred in the TV show first followed by Bendix.

I prefer the Bendix versions of radio and TV.

Hmm I really thought I replied to this, but I’ll try again.

The Gleason “Riley” was on NBC 1949-50 and was on film, not live. There was no laugh track.

I am almost sure that in fall 1980, when I was stationed near Boston, the Boston TV Guide had listings for WOR 9 & WPIX 11 NYC—-and if I remember, one carried the Gleason Riley while the other had the Bendix eps simultaneously.

As the Gleason version had only 26 eps, I assume it was on only once a week.
