Now tonight I will pull out the season 6 DVD to see what 4 eps she missed since Im off tomorrow lol I think when I watched it the first time I didnt even notice

Didn’t The Jefferson’s switch Lionels and then switch back? Was all that done amicably and peacefully?

And who would possibly cause trouble on the One Day At A Time set?

To you young people under 30 (or realllly now 40), this is what girls looked liked in the 1970's.

She really had an interesting life growing up and if I was her, would probably be partying all the time and fall into addiction myself. Her father was nuts. The people in The Mama's and the Papa's were nuts.

This was really the rock star show. Imagine Howard Hesseman, the members of Van Halen and John Phillips in one room? Yikes!

Well in the case of Lionel, it wasnt a ongoing contract dispute. He just approached Lear at the end of season 1 and said he wanted off the show. Then he ran into Sherman Hemsley in the summer of 1979 before season 6 and they started talking and that's how he ended up back on the show.

Now I have no clue why he left AGAIN after season 8 lol Something im still searching for

Listened to tremendous long in-depth interviews of Norman Lear, Sally Struthers, and John Amos over the last year. Norman Lear was able to move on from squabbles and retain a good working relationship with his actors. He'd even rehire John Amos for a short lived series after being fired from Good Times. Amos said he'd never of been available for Roots if he didn't get canned from Good Times.

Evans was creator and writer of Good Times along with Eric Monte.

The major responsibilities and hardships of writing for "Good Times", which became one of the first TV sitcoms to feature a primarily African American cast in quite some time, took its toll, and Mike began making fewer appearances as Lionel. In fact, he left the role completely in the fall of 1975 after only eight months to focus on his writing and was replaced by actor Damon Evans (no relation to Mike), who inhabited the part for four seasons. Mike eventually reclaimed the part in 1979 after the cancellation of "Good Times". His character of Lionel, however, had dwindled so significantly in importance that he left the show again in 1981, this time for good.

False information. I have the 1976 ebony magazine explaining why he left and it had nothing to do with Good Times. I also have the Jeffersons book explaining the conversation between Mike Evans and sherman Hemsley

Put everything in context. In 1975, All In The Family was still #1 and she was grossly underpaid for being on a #1 show. However back in those days, it was the norm that women were paid less. ABC paid Farah Fawcett's replacement $10,000 per episode. Caroll was paid $30,000 per episode and also walked out for several episodes. This is why he called the paying of actors so unfair. Both the actors and producers have contracts. However the producers get their contracts renewed every year based on the success of the show. Caroll's point was the actors should be treated the same. The actors sell the show and make it successful yet everyone else can renegotiate based on the show's success except the actors. Sally was paid 1/5 of the star of the show. Today this would never fly. I think it was fair for her to maybe ask for 1/4 of what Caroll got. The actors made the show a success yet they were treated as if their talent had nothing to do with it.
These disputes were ahead of their time. 5 years later Suzanne Sommers also learned the hard way.
