Default Who are some of your favorite sitcom recurring characters?

Characters who were considered an important part of a series, but never actually made it into the opening credits.

Shout out to Bob Morton (played by John Putch), One Day At A Time

Maybe referring to them as ‘recurring’ instead of ‘supporting’ is a better way to phrase it. I slightly changed the topic title.

Wilma Flintstone's Mother. She was the typical " Mother in law from hell" to poor Fred ! The episodes she was in were hilarious !

Ernest T Bass way up at the top of the list
Lt. Scanlon of Barney Miller
Eddie Haskel, if he qualifies as recurring as opposed to "scarce regular"
Uncle Tonoose of Danny Thomas
Uncle Arthur of Bewitched...disclaimer: I detest Paul Lynde, but he absolutely nails the role of contemptible relative

Otis the drunk (TAGS), and Aunt Clara (Bewitched) make the list too, as should "Shorty" (Shug Fisher) on Beverly Hillbillies

Nick and Loretta Tortelli on Cheers. Anthony and Annie were no slouches, either.

Blanche Hefner on All in the Family and Archie Bunker’s Place. I wish she had been in more episodes, because she was a great foil for Archie.

Lilith Sternin on Cheers (yeah, she was later a regular) and Frasier.

Tom Skerritt as Evan Drake on Cheers. Not because he was a particularly funny character, but because of the way they used him as the object of Rebecca’s unrequited love was fantastic. There’s one episode where he tells one of the other characters something like, every time I see her she does something weirder than the last time.

Skippy on Family Ties.

Aunt Clara on Bewitched

Jeannie’s sister on I Dream of Jeannie.

Regrettably, he died after only 3 appearances, but Will Wright as "Ben Weaver" on TAGS was pretty cool too.
