I'm following to a degree but now and then get info that makes me think more on it all. Is it worse than we're led to believe?

This is really a huge keg of worms.

A few years ago, activist investors seized control of the major US railroads (except BNSF) and started implementing economic fascism to maximize stockholder return.

Lots of things got carved to the bone in the name of profit. There has been a LOT of grousing about this among the railroads rank and file. The boogieman buzzword catching their ire is called "Precision Scheduled Railroading"...you can google that term and kiss goodbye hours trying to absorb it all.

But greatly condensed, the activists have been squeezing the orange to get every last drop of juice.

This is what's got Pete Buttigieg on the war path right now. The general feeling is that safety has been put in the back seat for the sake of profit

Why does the town mispronounce Palestine? I find that annoying.

My mother always told me to wear clean underwear because I might drive a train and have it derail and I would be dead and it would be embarrassing to wear dirty underwear.

Some might think that driving a train naked would be a liberatiing experience. I dont, one is just naked driving a train.

Pete Booty**** is an incompetent moron that hasn't even shown up at the crash site yet. This is not his first failure. The airlines and the cargo ships coming into US ports are a complete disaster. That's a major reason we have this runaway inflation. Let me ask you this: Biden has now been president for 2 years. At what point does he become responsible for what happens in this country?

We are over 300 miles from the crash site, predominately "up wind" and source our drinking water from completely different aquifers. Yet there is buzz in the local media that people locally are concerned that our water might be made unsafe by this event.

Thankfully the local media is doing nothing to stoke the flames, just reporting on the few social media crackpots who are.

A video surveillance camera in Salem Ohio, 20 miles before the big derailment, shows the car suspected of causing the disaster already with an overheated wheel bearing, showering sparks everywhere.

So, it's kinda mind boggling this could have gone on for 20 miles before the derailment, with no one figuring out that a problem existed.

Should I deduce from your comments that you are on the railroad's side?

I'm no fan of Buttigieg, for reasons I'm sure you especially are familiar with. (be interesting to hear Biff Bronson ring-in on his opinion of Buttigieg)

But, in this particular instance I believe Wall street is more complicit than government, and Buttigieg's willingness to grapple with Goliath, IMO, pushes the right buttons

There have always been train derailments and there will continue to be train derailments. Front locomotives hit a car/truck at a train xing and derail. Meanwhile, 100 cars back another group of locomotives continue to push/pull the train because it didn't receive the remote signal to stop. Happens a lot with mega sized trains~ 3 mile ones!

Technology is fails all the time.

And how did the government fix Southwest Airlines after their major weather related SNAFU?

That's quite simplistic and I would have hoped, beneath you.

Because I consider the Biden administration an utter disaster and Pete Booty**** a disgrace, that somehow means I am on the "railroad's side"? The railroad doesn't want to have accidents. Even if you think the railroad is an evil greedy capitalist that only counts dollars and cents and not lives, this is a lot of dollars and cents.

The first thing the Biden administration comes out with is that this is really "Trump's fault" because, well everything is Trump's fault. The first thing the Biden administration fed to their puppets in the media after the Chinese balloon debacle was "Trump had three balloons". It was a crock of ****. That's why I said in my post above, "Biden has now been president for 2 years. At what point does he become responsible for what happens in this country?".
