What case would make the best movie? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

The Denis DePue episode no doubt inspired the opening sequence of "Jeepers Creepers". There is no way that is coincidental. But in reality it does make somewhat of a good movie.

Kathy and Steve Page's case with the billboards all over town that accuse Steve of murder are the inspiration of the movie "Two Billboards Outside of Ebbing Missouri".

But what cases would make a good movie from the episodes? With a little creative licensing too and filling in some blanks.

I know they already did "Fire in the Sky" back in 1993, but man the Allagash Abductions are not quite like that movie and are different altogether as far as the alien abduction. Would be a good popcorn flick.

The tunnel robberies would make for a good film.

Tunnel Bank Robberies
Barbara Petrovsky's case sounds like a Lifetime movie I'm shocked it was never adapted into one.

I also found the case of Beverly McGowan interesting but more so the life of Elaine Person. She went through great lengths for very little money. Then it was revealed she was a serial killer and had stolen the identities of multiple women. Very strange lady.

I think that you are referring to Elaine Antoinette Parent not Elaine Person.

I'm pretty sure I'm repeating myself from a previous thread or two but the Irene Love (Lost Love story) of trying to locate her sister Dolores is perfect material for a family drama/coming of age movie. Maybe even an episode mini-series since there's so much material to cover. But the main points that would drive the drama would be -

- Dolores' adopted mother dying and her moving away.
- Both Irene and Dolores finding out that they were adopted.
- Both women finding out that your best friend from next door who you spent the first ten years of your life with was actually your sister.
- Irene finding out the restaurant her adopted parents took her to every Sunday was because her birth parents worked there and that was the only way they could see her from afar.
- Dolores finding out that the couple who eventually adopted her were her birth parents. (I can't imagine a bigger bombshell than that.)

The story could be told from each sister's perspective as they grew up and made all these discoveries. Sadly, Irene was never able to locate Dolores. But since this is a movie, a happy ending could be written where the women finally find each other. Always found this story fascinating.

Many of them.. But I'd only want to see one that had the solution.

Or, if it was 'based off a true story' kinda deal, they'd have to invent a solution that fits the facts.

I don't want to watch and have it end with questions.

Like reading a book and someone has torn out the last 5 pages.

The Travis Wade Duncan / John Fisher case. I've seen many comments on YT about how this segment already looks like a real movie - which I have to agree. They really put a lot of money into making the segment.

I'm going to stick to enjoying my classic UM segments. Let's face it: with the way movies are made today, I doubt there is anything short of a large budget, big studio effort that could compare to the production value and story telling of UM. Does anyone really think a 2023 movie about Angela Hammond could tell a better story than that UM segment?

I doubt it. They would do some weird CGI stuff

I guess the most famous one would be Alpha Dog. The UM segment came first. Alpha Dog was 2005 I think. Obviously the movie was based on the case.

Interesting about Alpha Dog, the movie crew had already wrapped up production. Then Jesse James Hollywood was captured and they had to go back and reshoot a different ending. The premise of the movie was the same although there were some moments that were exaggerated for Hollywood effect.

We had a UM movie thread going a few years back. The most notable examples I remember was the Marie Hilley story (Judith Light played Marie) and the Theresa Stamper story...in which Cindy Williams of Laverne & Shirley fame played Theresa's mother. In that one, I remember the scene where they're watching their own Unsolved Mysteries segment hoping Paul would be captured. Both of these are available on YouTube....

the best screen adaptation of a case featured on Unsolved Mysteries is the excellent Fatal Vision based on the Jeffrey Macdonald case with Karl Malden, Eva Marie Saint, and Gary Cole. Only way to watch it right now are terrible quality uploads of old TV airings but it is finally getting a Blu ray release this year
