MeTV could do what CN does when it's difficult to edit, just ban the cartoon. There's an earlier 1940s misc. cartoon with a Jolson bit, also. As for The Inspector's lack of ears, what do you expect from DePatie-Freleng? LOL! |

The Inspector has no ears thru the whole cartoon--I initially thought you couldn't see them since his coat collar was up. But even in the Santa suit he didn't have them.
There weren't any obvious edits on MeTV, though. |

Today's post talks about the blogs 10th anniversary and Popeye's Ace of Space, which is seen frequently on Toon In With ME (not in 3D and unfortunately with the AAP opening logo attached). Beck considers Ace Of Space and Boo Moon (Casper) to be the best of the 50's 3D cartoon fad. |

Interesting post on Cartoon Research. The Warner foray into 3-D (such as it was) was the 1953 Bugs Bunny cartoon, "Lumber Jack-Rabbit." The cartoon features the WB shield "popping out" of its Looney Tunes rings. Otherwise it seems to lack any of the interesting effects Ace of Space has. The later Bugs space cartoon, "Hare-Way to the Stars," would probably have been great in 3-D.
We have yet to see "Lumber Jack-Rabbit" on MeTV. The problem probably is Bugs' prominent singing of Jimmy Crack Corn (Blue-Tail Fly). It traces back to the 1800s and blackface usage, although I'm not sure how much of a problem this would be today, as it's so far-removed. "Lumber Jack-Rabbit" and "The Mouse That Jack Built" are two that MeTV should air. |

"Do I Smell Love In The Air?"
The Stupid Cupid (Daffy, Elmer - 1944 - Tashlin) Don't Look Now (1936 - Avery) Aloha Hooey (1942 - Avery [uncredited]) - story board by Michael Maltese, this is a Toon In With Me debut. The cartoon was completed by Bob Clampett, after Tex Avery started it in 1941 before he left Warners. This is a Turner dubbed version (according to Looney Tunes Wiki notes, it matches up with the EU Turner dubbed version), with a wrong-year ending cue edited on; therefore, the cartoon was not restored or the dubbed version was restored. I-Ski Love-Ski You-Ski (Popeye - 1936 - Fleischer) Stop! Look! and Hasten! (Road Runner - 1954 - Jones) |

"Ride Along With Bill"
(Detective Abouttoretire tries to do Bill's cartoon curator job) Baby Buggy Bunny (Bugs - 1954 - Jones) Dicky Moe (Tom and Jerry - 1962 - Deitch) Pink-A-Rella (Pink Panther - 1969 - Pratt) The Spinach Roadster (Popeye - 1936 - Fleischer) Little Boy Boo (Foghorn Leghorn - 1954 - McKimson) |

"Telenovela!"
Hare Splitter (Bugs - 1948 - Freleng) - although this was just shown last Saturday, it's one of Freleng's funniest shorts. Bugs and "Casbah" compete for the affection of Daisy Lou, one of the fortunate rabbits that lives in a house instead of a hole. Cartoons Ain't Human (Popeye - 1943 - Kneitel) - as noted by Leff and other sources, this is the last Popeye cartoon produced in black and white Gem Dandy (Roland and Rattfink - 1970 - Chiniquy) No! No! A Thousand Times No! (Betty Boop - 1935 - Fleischer) Nuts and Volts (Speedy, Sylvester - 1964 - Freleng) |

In two weeks, Toon In With ME will have an episode dedicated to Porky Pig's 88th birthday.

Here's a pretty sizable list of Porky cartoons that haven't been shown on MeTV. It's fairly accurate, but of course not 100%. I've noted some I know are offensive, but there are probably others I'm not familiar with:
1930s Gold Diggers of '49 Boom Boom Westward Whoa Shanghaied Shipmates Porky's Poultry Plant Milk and Money Porky's Moving Day Little Beau Porky The Village Smithy Porky in the North Woods Porky the Wrestler Porky's Road Race Porky's Romance Porky's Double Trouble Porky at the Crocadero Porky's Phoney Express Injun Trouble** Porky the Fireman Porky's Party Porky's Spring Planting Wholly Smoke Porky in Wackyland Porky in Egypt The Lone Stranger and Porky Porky's Movie Mystery Porky and Teabiscuit Kristopher Kolumbus Jr. Porky's Picnic Wise Quacks Jeepers Creepers Pied Piper Porky 1940s Porky's Last Stand Africa Squeaks** Ali-Baba Bound Pilgrim Porky Porky's Poor Fish The Chewin' Bruin Porky's Hired Hand Porky's Preview Porky's Ant A Coy Decoy We, the Animals Squeak Robinson Crusoe, Jr. Porky's Midnight Matinee Who's Who in the Zoo Confusions of a Nutzy Spy Tom Turk and Daffy Slightly Daffy* Brother Brat* Wagon Heels** Nothing But the Tooth** 1950s Dog Collared** China Jones** *Wartime cartoon **Possibly offensive |

Since Billy West was doing the voices, there was a Dr. Zoidberg (Futurama) cameo / Easter egg in the Duck Dodgers cartoon.

As to showing the Porky Pig Show theme, meh!
The problem was that Hal Seeger Studios did that animation, and not Warner Bros. Off-model-city! And the kids looked like the ones in the Beany & Cecil opening! It should be noted that Barbara Cameron wrote the theme, as she also did for the more popular Road Runner Show theme. cd |
