The NBC revival is grabbing some of the biggest viewership numbers network TV has seen in years, shocking industry insiders. What’s behind its huge success? |

I didn't click the link but a lot of broadcast TV is pretty awful. I guess in comparison, it's gold.

Well, I've watched every episode, but I'm still waiting for spontaneous, gut wrenching laughter...I suspect others are in a similar predicament.
liked the original show enough that I'm hoping the reboot will eventually find it's footing.....but frankly they seem a little adrift with no rudder... |

"Why Is the ‘Night Court’ Revival Such a Massive Hit?"
That's not the question, the question is, why is this claim being made when there is no evidence to support it? The audience numbers have been trending downward since the second episode. The first episode was a hit about 7.5 million watched it (the word massive is a bit of a stretch), the second dropped to around 6.2 million, the third to around 5 million, the fourth to about 4.6 million, the last episode (2/7) to about 4.2 million. It continues to do well but the audience numbers are going the wrong way, until the numbers stabilize we won't know how big a hit, or ultimately if it is a hit at all. The article is little more than a press agent's dream with nothing to substantiate this level of enthusiasm. |

I must be watching a different show than what they claim is a hit.
Not the worst, but I don't find it very funny. |

Yeah, I think calling it a "massive hit" is a bit of a stretch. I went into it with low expectations since to me most network TV shows (especially sitcoms) nowadays are lousy. I do get a chuckle from it here and there, but it's not what I would call a massive hit.

A fair point, I saw the .5 note on the rating breakdown and that is indeed good news for the show, it can live in that space there's no doubt about it. I'm not sure it will hold at .5, we'll see. The reason I focused on the overall number is to counter the description of the show as a massive hit, even the .5 figure suggests its not a massive hit.

When I have posted on this series I have recommended reserving judgement with respect to how well the series was doing, statements referring to the show as a "massive hit" are absurd. The numbers for the airing of 2/14 are out and they illustrate this point. Once again the show continued to see a consistent decline in overall viewership down to 3.7 million. the 18-49 number declined as well .49 (it was .55 the prior week). With respect to the other shows at that time it is in third place for overall viewers barely ahead of 911:Lone Star, they are also in third place with respect to 18-49 viewers behind Lone Star and FBI but ahead of The Rookies. Here's a very short piece from TV Fanatic:
TV Ratings: Night Court Freefall Continues Paul Dailly at February 15, 2023 12:41 pm. NBC may have pulled the trigger on a Night Court renewal a bit too quickly. The revival continued to lose steam this week. Night Court Season 1 Episode 6 had 3.7 million total viewers and a 0.5 rating -- marking a new series low among total viewers. The thing we don't know at this point is where these number will stabilize, it does appear work needs to be done on the show once the new season starts. |

"Why Is the ‘Night Court’ Revival Such a Massive Hit?".....
If it is, I have no idea, because the show is utterly and completely unfunny whatsoever. I have watched every episode hoping for some kind of improvement, but except for the pilot episode have turned it off half way through. It's a shame because the original show was one of the out loud funniest series of all time. This show is as funny as cancer. I will say the actress who plays the lawyer opposite John Larroquette, India de Beaufort is absolutely gorgeous. Maybe this is why I keep watching this dumpster fire to look at her. I'll still try to watch it. I'm bored and have the time. Losing ten minutes of my life a week isnt bad, and looking at India is worth the bother. |
