Default "Bubba Higgins" mentioned on The Family

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0E35xIFolc

The Character of "Bubba" was mentioned in The Family "Teacher's Dilemma" skit and it was brilliant. This particular skit shows how dysfunctional Ed and Eunice were as parents. It also made the writer's decision to add "Bubba" to the Syndicated version of "Mama's Family" more realistic and sensible. Mama and Eunice may have their issues, but family is still very important to her. Her choices in raising Eunice may be selfish at times but she made up for it by raising her grandson right.

Also, Dame Maggie Smith's guest appearance elevated this skit to another level. It didn't make the episode buffoonish but rather touching.

Bubba was mentioned a few times throughout the Family Sketches but never shown. Another time was when Eunice was telling her brother Phil about Raymond ~usually called Billy Joel~ was throwing a fit because Bubba found more Easter eggs than him, so Eunice had to hide another one and let Raymond find it... Ed also mentioned that Bubba was "all boy", but he was concerned that Billy Joel was gonna be a bit of a "Nancy".... So the impression I get based on that and the Easter egg story was Bubba was the tough boyish one and Billy was the sensitive one

Thanks for posting this! Given that Ed, Eunice and Bubba never were on Mama's Family at the same time, I love how this ties both eras of the show together even though it aired over a decade earlier.

I always wondered if Billy Joel still existed in Mama's Family... I know he ran away in the movie Eunice, so I wonder if he ran away and they just never heard from him again
