Default Interesting Social Media Experiments? :)

There was an interesting Social Media Experiment where a Woman went to a Restaurant looking GORGEOUS. Short, tight black dress, lipstick, mascara, eyeshadow, blush, high heels, flat ironed hair. She got multiple men offering to pay her meal for her. She left and came back with T-shirt, Jeans, sneakers, no makeup, frizzy hair, and glasses. NOBODY offered to pay her meal for her. Interesting. She did this as an experiment to show that prettier People get special treatment over frumpier people.

Do you really need a study for this?

Do you think that Frank Sinatra would have attained the superstardom he did, had he instead looked like Fred Mertz?

I also noticed that back when those "Glamshots" studios were all the rage in malls....a gal would go to the shop and lay down a couple hundred dollars, and they would give her a Hollywood makeover and then shoot a portrait of how she would never look again,.. that she could set on her mantle.

They advertised in the local newspapers, usually with "before" and "after: photos....and the "before" photos invariably had the gal with her mouth open, like she was speaking.....just an observation.

At one time there were hundreds of Glamour Shots locations in the U.S., but most folded long ago now.

Inside Edition once did a study comparable to the one River Jordan has detailed. In their experiment, they disguised Lisa Guerrero as an old woman and compared people's reactions to her vs. her normal self. Predictably, males went out of their way to assist "young" Lisa, but not "old."

No, I just found the Social experiment interesting. It would have been even more interesting if NEITHER of her looks got any meal offers. Or if it had been the other way around.

Years ago, there was a similar experiment with department store salesclerks. The 'pretty' women were waited on quickly and the 'others' were not. I've walked in a department store wearing a sweatshirt and jeans and little makeup and the clerks seemed to avoid me.

Esquire magazine, years ago, did a cover story where they took Bowery bums and cleaned them up, put them in a new suit, and did a "before vs after" photoshoot...the transition was remarkable.

I guess there is some sort of psychological flaw in most people where we seek to shield ourselves from our own flaws (intentional lack of self awareness) by surrounding ourselves with beautiful people. Allows us to pretend we are one of them. I bring this up mostly to emphasize that there are other factors besides "horndog" at work here.

Julia Roberts's Pretty Woman character named Vivian had something similar happen to her when she was wearing bummy clothes, but they didn't avoid her, they belittled her and then kicked her out, despite her doing absolutely nothing wrong!!

She came back dressed like a sophisticated lady and a high fashion Socialite, and the Clerk who was so rude to her treated her nicely not knowing she was the same person wearing bummy clothes that was treated like trash yesterday! Vivian politely told her off and implied she wouldn't''t give that store her business and left!! "You work on commission, right? BIG mistake! HUGE! I have to go shopping now!" That was a polite way of telling the Clerk she could buzz off!
