The opening of each “Beauty and the Beast” episode features some great night shots of the truly spectacular New York City skyline. It always give me pause to reflect when the camera focuses on lower Manhattan, but especially on the original World Trade Center building, knowing what terrible thing happened there nearly fourteen years later.
I wonder how Vincent, Father, Mary, Mouse, Pascal and the rest of the inhabitants of The World Below would have reacted to the news of the horrific attack down in the financial district? Of course, being situated below Central Park, they were all well north of the deadly terrorist attack. Would Vincent have attempted to rush down to the WTC site to offer his assistance? Although, with the NYC subways and the NY/NJ PATH subway line shut down, Vincent would have encountered great difficulty in reaching the WTC building on Church Street. After living through that truly awful day, I suspect that Father was glad that he had had the presence of mind to establish his utopian society below NYC many years before. And, Vincent must have reflected on how his beloved Catherine would have reacted to the evil attack on NYC and the rest of the United States on September 11, 2001. |
