Sometimes my mom watches Newhart on Decades and I wonder how the idea to create Newhart came to be? Because Newhart was a wonderful show and the opening intro and theme song are so charming and cute and it takes you back in time to when life was peaceful and quiet and wouldn't be so cute to stay at a bed-and breakfast inn like Newhart's was?

Newhart is just the tv version of On Golden Pond.
Its been a long time since I have seen OGP, but some of the opening scenes look like they could have been taken from OGP. |

I see some similarities with the Andy Griffith Show. It was set in a small peaceful town in Vermont with an incompetent handy man and quirky residents vs a small peaceful town in North Carolina with an incompetent deputy and quirky residents. Both had characters that don't speak - Daryl and Daryl vs the Darling boys.

The opening credits scenes are taken from On Golden Pond, but that's the only thing they have in common.
