Default Weird edits on MeTV

1. Why does the 11:30pm broadcast of Perry Mason extend to 12:35? I assume it means it airs unedited and they need the extra 5 minutes. But why? Why not do it for the daytime airings as well?

2. Since every show during the overnight hours are pushed back 5 mins does that mean Barnaby Jones airs with less commercials or they cut out even more footage from each episode?

3. Why do they use the second theme song of The Flintstones for all episodes and never the first one? I remember when the show first premiered they used both openings and now its just the lyrical one.

1- To run more commercials.
2- Edit more footage from episode, I've noticed some where I say to myself something was missing.
3-No idea, but it might have to do with copyright or beings able to shorten without losing the words.

MeTV has some weird priorities in making their programs fit the time slot.

Recently in a showing of TAGS "Barney's Uniform" they cut completely out the segment where the Judo instructor confronts Fred Plummer. They go from Andy meeting with the instructor (dressed as Barney) in front of the courthouse, to a commercial, and then returned to Barney in front of a mirror in his apartment, with Andy knocking on the door to deliver the suit to Barney,

Even though I've seen the judo scene a thousand times, I felt shorted by the lack of continuity

We have discussed #3 on here and the cartoon subforum a couple of times already. They use the Meet The Flintstones theme, because of less than stellar ratings. It's the same deal with using the late 80's color prints of Gilligan's Island. Even though the restored black and white episodes would look sharper on modern hi-def televisions, more people remember and prefer watching the show in color.

When The Flintstones started airing on METV, they used the original "Rise And Shine" theme for a few months. So you can probably thank casual viewers who really dont know any better for some of these weird edits.

As for #2, they can still probably show a complete syndicated Barnaby Jones episode due to 4:00am-5:00am not being a very desirable time slot for major advertisers.

I wonder, if they eliminate the amount of ASPCA, prescription drugs and often gross geezer products placement commercials, if it would help attract a slightly younger audience? I really think these commercials could be hurting them more than helping to increase the number of middle-aged viewers.

It seems like most stations butcher TV show episodes. The only exception I can think of is Buzzr when they run the lost episodes or the old Price is Right with Bill Cullen. They expand the run time to accommodate the whole program including original commercials. Get TV did this as well when they ran hard to find shows like " Peter Loves Mary".

What I've started to do is follow the schedules of different stations that I watch and see if there is a streaming option of the show I'm interested in. I'll then watch to episode(s) that way. Much fewer if any commercials and content pretty much left intact.

All the Medicare ads alone are a turn-off. Even during Toon In With Me, which should have a pretty good kids audience.

The commercials could end up being the network's downfall. I have a suspicion that the big pharmaceutical companies snd Medicare have deep pockets and are willing to pay more to advertise on channels like METV and GritTV.

I thought we would stop seeing Medicare commercials after the open enrollment period ended last month.

Same for the old "What's My Line" episodes.

Some mentioned the low quality of ads as being a turnoff and keeping potential viewers away. However almost all modern ads are rock bottom and obnoxious, not only the ones on MeTV but on all commercial channels.
