I heard Nell Carter thought of suicide during her GAB era...but if she did die before Dolph Sweet...I think the series would end...because The Kaniskis may NOT have a strong concept.
Who'd be the mother figure...Telma Hopkins? |

I will agree that the show would have had a hard time surviving without Nell.

On the E! True Story they get the date wrong I think...Nell wanted to kill herself at the end of season 2. She overdosed on pills then. Then she went to Hazelton or wherever and lost a lot of weight. They said in spring of 1984 that happened. That would have been the end of season 3. At least I think they said that. Spring of 1983 was end of season 2. 90 pounds lighter was between 2 and 3. The E! Story says it happened between seasons 3 and 4 and in 1984, if I remember correctly.
Nell could have been gone after 2 seasons had she died that time when overdosing. We wouldn't have had any season 3-6 episodes, and the last episode would have been Nell Gets Sick that aired. Filmed, it might have been Nell And The Kid. Yes, Nell flew to London in early 1984 they said to see Liza Minelli. Makes NO SENSE. Season 3 was still in production at that time and she was thin that season! Spring of 1984 was the end of season 3. She still stayed the same weight. Season 2-3 was when it happened. Must have been Spring of 1983 she saw Liza. When the show went on Hiatus after season 2. |

I don't think the show would have continued after losing both Dolph and Nell. Look at Chico and the Man, that show seems to be permanently shelved in the vault and the reason is because it's too painful for people to watch.
And GMAB would never be seen again so we're lucky that the show continued on with Nell. |

Gimme A Break is still to this day one of the funniest sitcoms. Nell was hilarious and was great at physical comedy as well. Her comedic timing was A+! Such a great loss.
