I was born in 1959, so I was practically raised on TV….if only I did better in school…(j/k)
Back in the late 70s, NBC had the rights to the original 24 Jetsons episodes. The prints of the episodes themselves were not exactly pristine….but one feature was really odd. During the opening theme, immediately after “Jane, his wife,” an immediate cut was made showing George ready to enter the workplace. Apparently the PTB at that time decided it wasn’t PC to show women as golddiggers, so the swap-of-the-dollar-bill-for-the-whole-wallet bit was deleted. Keep in mind that this era was pretty much the height of the feminist movement. Have there been any “theses” online about the massive edit? I’d just like to know who decided this, how/why it came about, etc. After all, the swap was restored as early as 1985 with the new episodes, albeit using that same 1962 animation, although the theme was re-sung and dubbed. Anyway, does anyone here recall that? [PS I used to be on the message boards at BCDB with this question, and the first response was from apparently a young girl, who wrote something like, “I have to say, you are OLD!” And that was about 16 years ago! Thanks a lot!] cd |

It figures--the busybodies at that time were getting all kinds of cuts to all the Saturday morning shows. As an avid Warner Saturday morning viewer, I can attest to the cuts to those cartoons.
The one change to The Jetsons I'm aware of was the addition of title cards to the original episodes when the newer ones were made in the 80s. I have al of those recorded off Comcast On Demand, full length. I think the theme was redubbed on those versions. |

So glad the original episodes were restored properly since, save some laugh tracks. |

Back when I was on BCDB, one person did remember the edit I saw.
As far as the title cards, it’s a very cost-friendly (read: CHEAP) way of covering the whole 75 episodes. A practically complete list of voices, animators, other artists, et al.; the same one plastered on all 75. I think that this was done (gang credits) maybe as early as Magilla Gorilla? I’m not sure. cd |

(Oops—even The Huckleberry Hound Show had gang credits, but the individual cartoon openings, not seen on the Huck Show, gave individual credit.) cd |
