Quick question from newbie - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I'm sure this has been addressed already, but I did not want to go through all 11 pages of threads. I just started watching 0&H on a on going basis via Classic reruns TV, Steve Beverly's TV Classics, VUDO, Tubi and Shokus Video- Did they ever say or show where and if Ozzie worked?- So far in the episodes I have seen he always appears at home but never a scene coming or going from work. TIA

Also I prefer Don Defore as Thorny, VS. as Mr. B in Hazel

Mr. B is an eternal grouch--agree.

In some episodes Ozzie is going or coming from "downtown" on the bus. When talking to David about his career he sometimes gives advice in terms that make you think he might be a lawyer.

But he seems to have no real occupation. Most of the time he's going out to buy some more ice cream. Otherwise he's always around the house.

So It's looks like they made Ozzie one of the the 1st stay at home dad's, and collected residuals for the future. lol

Ozzie was asked about this in interviews, he indicated the TV series was kind of a continuation of the radio show. The radio show was about the home life of band leader Ozzie Nelson, his wife Harriet and their two children. Ozzie was a successful band leader, he had a number 1 hit way back in 1935 titled "And Then Some" (a pretty good record). The big band era was sunsetting by the time the show moved to TV, so his former profession wasn't referenced (as far as I know).

They occasionally did songs from the "old days" (Ozzie and Harriet) but, right, not much said about specifics. Maybe it would make them seem too old.

In a recent Christmas episode I watched "Christmas Tree Lot" or something they mentioned Ozzie "was the Ricky Nelson of his day" and he sings a song. Once in a while he & Harriet will sing with a band behind them. Other times once in a while they'll mention Ozzie in a band. Then like said above once or twice you'll see him going to or just back from "the office" or making a comment "I had a long day" as if just returned. I assumed we're supposed to believe this is Ozzie the former big band guy and this is why he's not in a regular job. Maybe he works from home on his laptop.
