Default MeTV is going down the drain

The Beverly Hillbillies - in Prime-Time????

They should have picked up "Early Edition". and dumped A-Team.

They are hanging their hat on Svengoolie. They haven't switched up late-night programming in years - who on earth is watching Cannon at 3 in the morning?

Cannon at 3 in the morning is better than infomercials. So yes, it can always be worse.

The annual network rankings should be out in a few days, so we can see how MeTV is working out:

That 2018 linked rating is one of several after that which show their success. It's why their schedule changes very little.

There's probably a good reason why they removed Gomer Pyle, maybe not associated with ratings, and BH could be a temporary place holder. We'll see!

Apparently, MASH and Andy Griffith will remain in the same time slots forever. Even the most avid fans of those shows must be getting a bit tired of them.

Yeah. they will never remove MASH and Andy Griffith. What I would give to get rid of Hogan's Heroes but I guess people like it and the ratings are good.

Let's go point by point:

You said

"METV is going down the drain"

Variety ran an article at the very end of 2021 titled "The Most Watched Networks of 2021", out of 153 networks METV ranked 23rd, so much for that point.

You said:

"The Beverly Hillbillies in Prime-Time"

What's wrong with that. The network is trying something, the show is consistent with interests of the METV audience, if it works fine, if it doesn't they'll pull it and try something else. It was a big hit series in the 1960's just like many of the programs in their evening line-up.

You said:

" They should have picked up "Early Edition". and dumped A-Team".

This idea makes no sense, Early Edition was on in the late 90's, the show is a bad fit for the network. I have no idea how the A-Team is doing, if it's doing well, why would they drop it, if it's not doing well then I imagine they will.

He's on once a week and the show gets good numbers, that's the name of the game.

Cannon matches well with the police/detective block that starts at two and runs until 6:30. It's good programming strategy.

I heard somewhere that MASH and Andy's MeTV contracts end in 2024. It was a 10 year deal starting back in 2014. So maybe they will not be able to renew them afterwards. I think Gomer was gone not because of poor ratings but rather the contact expired and they couldn't come to terms for a new deal.

Thus forcing them to change the lineup.

I don’t know about that.Me TV is coming off of a very great season with Me TV Sunday Block Marathon & A Very Merry Me TV.

They do carry alot of fantastic Programming. Although personally a lot of my favorites are on Decades.

Although I do agree some programming is questionable. The Saved By The Bell Sunday Morning binge?

I would have thought Leave It To Beaver would be a better Choice than The Beverly Hillbillies in Primetime.

I do agree I feel that the LateNight-Overnight time slots needs different programming. I for one would love to see 50’s & 60’s Sitcoms programming take those 11:00pm-5:30AM. time slots or similar to what NICK at NITE did in the 80’s & 90’s.

Talking Gomer Should Just Be the Beginning

I don't regret that Gomer's leaving, it's been there long enough. And certainly Early Edition is the last thing Metv should put on, it's a modern show and they don't belong on a TV Classics channel. Besides it's already somewhere else, don't ask me where I will never watch, but I've seen it listed in daily program guides of other bad channels.

What I'd really like to see leave is those never ending MUSH shows and the endless Hogan's Zeros both those series were on too long a month after they started. And while I like Bev. Hillbillies it's just another one of those series that is EVERYWHERE now, FETV, MeTV in mornings, that other weird that channel that shows Hunter and Rowan & Martin every night, I think it's even on Laff now too. Is anyone really clamoring for yet more endless Bev. Hillbillies every single night? Once a week, maybe.

Really why can't Metv do what we've long been asking for and that is put on TV classics that are not already shown to death. How about Love That Bob or December Bride or Life with Elizabeth or Hawaiian Eye or Life of Riley or blah blah blah, I could go on & on with more real TV classics that are never shown anymore. I'd love to see the entire MeTV current primetime schedule scrapped and replaced with genuine unseen TV shows like the one's I mentioned. And as far as overnight crime shows, what's wrong with putting on some starting at 10 pm, 10 pm would be a perfect time for Cannon or Kojak or Mannix, then after an episode of Odd Couple then an episode of The Saint then Hawaiian Eye or have all of them on starting at 9 pm.

Once again I have a whole slew of shows I'd like to see. I also think swapping some westerns to overnight instead of the day would be a much wiser place for them. What kid wants to watch The Rifleman 1000 times over every day. That's one western MeTV has played to death like MUSH. There are so many other great westerns that could replace Rifleman. How about Lawman for starters?

Well, anyway, there are a lot of good choices MeTV COULD make, they just refuse to and instead forevermore play the same old same old till everyone's sick of them. They need to throw out 50% or more of the shows they currently run. And by the way put My 3 Sons on in the afternoon for kids to see or at 10 am not at 5 am or whatever ungodly hour it's currently on.

Well, whaddya gonna do? I know what I've BEEN doing I stick to my reliable DVDs, always great shows I like and I watch them WHEN I like. Sure beats relying on some cable channel to show your favorites. I'd still be waiting for Car 54 or December Bride if I didn't have DVDs.

I also said this. Normally they and other channels shuffle off shows to the graveyard or weekends when they have ratings problems. Gomer was just removed--this makes me think it expired. As you said they couldn't agree on terms, OR it simply became unavailable.

I totally agree it has gone down the drain. It used to be a great channel before they started doing this ratings business. The ratings are what have ruined it giving it no variety and keeping almost everything the same year after year.

They could just be giving Gomer Pyle a break like they do other shows and will bring it back if the Beverly Hillbillies doesn't meet the expected ratings. For instance, they gave Brady Bunch, Mama's Family Gilligan's Island and The Love Boat an extended break, last Summer through Fall and are bringing them back beginning next month.

I hate crapping on the channel, because there are some things they will do that other channel and diginets won't do. They run shows like My Three Sons and Gunsmoke from beginning to end. They will also air animated shows and specials that other networks and diginets refuse to show.

METV is about big hit series that have a lot of episodes and have been consistent performers in the rerun market. Again referring to the list of most watched networks in Variety for 2021 (article date 12/30/21), let's look at some of the other networks that broadcast older series on a regular basis:

23. METV
30. TVLand
56. Bounce
66. Start
76. Heroes & Icons
77. Cozi
84. Antenna
87. Up
85. Laff
97. Comet
103. Charge

The shows you mentioned, December Bride, Life With Elizabeth, Life of Riley, Love That Bob are nonstarters. Those shows have been out of circulation for decades The network would lose half its audience in no time. You have to be realistic. You may not like Hogan's Heroes, I don't like it either, you know who else doesn't like it, Neal Sabin the Vice Chairman of METV. Here's the problem, it is arguably the second most popular rerun of the 1960's. MASH is probably the most popular rerun series of the 70's and TAGS is without question the most popular rerun series of the 60's. That's why they stay on the schedule. There is no mystery here, people continue to watch these series in big numbers.

I guess the Odd Couple might reappear at some point although it has been gone for awhile. I've never seen Hawaiian Eye, has it ever been released on DVD? I guess it's a possibility for overnight Sunday's, but a more likely candidate would be the FBI.

I would have liked to have seen some type of TCM network developed for TV but I guess that ship has sailed, TCM is having its own troubles.
