Default Gomer's gone from MeTV

Starting January 7th. The one change they make to their weekday schedule and it's a lousy one.

Beverly Hillbillies.

Shame, shame, shame! (Meh not really. I accept Hillbillies, but both shows were good.)

Not sure why they still air 2 episodes of Andy Griffith every evening. Especially since they only air seasons 1-5. They could have replaced the second TAGS with Beverly Hillbillies and kept everything else the same.

I'm thinking their contract expired. Of course, no way to know for sure.

The two hours that have the highest churn rate are 6-7pm and 9-10pm. It has been speculated by posters that the 6-7pm churn is about lower ratings because some affiliates leave the network to run news programming in that timeslot, I don't know what the issue is with 9pm-10pm. My guess, the audience peaks during this hour so dips in the performance levels of any series have to be addressed at once.

I have to be honest about Gomer, I hadn't viewed the series in decades, when viewing it now I must admit to finding the series lame. The first season is good but after that the whole goody-two-shoes thing is laid on too thick. Camp Henderson seems more like a sleep away camp for adults rather than a military base.

I would not deny that the 1st season is one of the best, but there were lots of truly classic episodes later on. The spiked watermelons, Gomer and the avocado dip, Carter's car being crushed, Gomer secretly being at Carter's house when Carter is back home, Gomer's female cousin, Welsh Rarebit, Gomer assigned to mess cook under Hacker...

I was just thinking about the episode where Carter and Pyle are tied to chairs, with their mouths taped. Gomer figures out how to get loose. It's a funny scene, and we see that he's more than just a bumbler in a given situation.

A good example of a later classic is when Gomer is set up to be humiliated by the maneater type woman performer, yet she takes a liking to him. As with "Capt. Iron Pants" very early on in the series (S1, Ep 4), people who see that Gomer is pure of heart can't help but find him admirable. And in the process, their own lives benefit.

I like your analysis/insight here. You are right. Gomer was a kind-hearted person and even though this could get tedious at times, one always knew that with Gomer involved, the lives/situations of the others around him would be better.

Yes, I loved the odd bending of reality when Sergeant Carter's mother lived in Andy Taylor's house, as if we (and Gomer) wouldn't notice.
