What's the connection with music on Ozzie and Harriet and Hanna Barbera cartoons?

I noticed in season 6 there is music used that was also in Hanna Barbera cartoons. Does anyone know the connection?

Good ear. I've always paid close attention to background music since I was a kid. Yes, since I started watching O&H just a few years ago I've also noticed their familiar background music. Most of the Hanna Barbera background music was written by a guy named Hoyt Curtin. You'll also hear music used in early b/w episodes of My 3 Sons and many other bits of "Library Music" you'll hear on commercials also. This was all considered library music that Ozzie used, it was a lot cheaper to use pre-recorded music rather than score new ones for the show. Actually I prefer to hear this familiar cartoon and standard library commercial music on the Ozzie show. For me it adds to the enjoyment of the show. When they rush around you'll often hear the "shopping" library music used. Adventures of Superman ('50's series) used great background library music, but it was of the dramatic and action type music. '50's Superman music CDs are available but very hard to find.

There are several very interesting CDs containing the background songs you're talking about. The Hanna Barbera Hoyt songs are on a multi CD set called Hanna-Barbera's Pic-a-Nic Basket of Cartoon Classics. The very familiar music used in commercials (also played in grocery stores in the '60's) esp. in the '50's and '60's is found on a CD called Music For TV Dinners. These CDs are hard to find though as they are no longer in production, but you can still find used copies, I found them and others several years back when I went on my search.

This may be more info than you wanted but you struck on a subject I like.

The music cues from the Capitol Library turn up on many shows of that era--a lot of the Screen Gems shows, too--such as Dennis the Menace and the Donna Reed show.

Just recently received O&H seasons 7 and 8 DVD sets. In early season 7, in most episodes they are using the music that would later become the Donna Reed Show theme. It's odd to hear this familiar theme within episodes of another show.

I just heard some of this music on The Real McCoys. Season 4. Must have a popular approach to adding music to shows.
