Default Super Password, Dawson Feud, Card Sharks, and Press Your Luck Coming to GSN

Starting November 28, there are changes to their weekday schedule from 1-3PM. Match Game is gone, and the America Says hour following it. The new lineup of classics: 1:00 Press Your Luck 1:30 Super Password 2:00 Card Sharks and 2:30 Richard Dawson hosted Family Feud

This New GSN Retro Block (Permanent or annual Holiday Stunt) could be a answer to GameTV Canada’s Retro Block

Wow...this is truly a surprise. If my memory serves me correctly (and I'm probably wrong, so feel free to correct me anytime), this is probably the first time in a really long time Match Game is not part of GSN's daily schedule.

More than likely, MRPITT. Card Sharks, Family Feud, Press Your Luck, and Super Password are all permanent fixtures on Buzzr, unless the game show-oriented digital subnetwork decides to place one or more of those aforementioned programs on moratorium (albeit temporarily, of course) in order to add another classic game show to its schedule. After all, when Buzzr altered its daily schedule some time ago, Sale Of The Century, the Jack Narz-emceed 1970s incarnation of Concentration, Bill Cullen's black-and-white episodes of The Price Is Right, To Tell The Truth, and What's My Line? all returned to the vault; recent acquisitions Talk About and Whew! have both recently followed suit by being replaced with an addition hour of informercials.

As for GSN replacing Match Game in order to accommodate the return of Card Sharks, Family Feud, Press Your Luck, and Super Password to its lineup, this is definitely a surprise to me. It seems like it's been a dog's age--literally--since I spotted all four of those aforementioned game shows on GSN (even well before Buzzr's arrival), and if I'm not mistaken, this is probably the first time in a very long time Match Game is not airing regularly on GSN. Feel free to correct me if my initial information is incorrect, but I'm absolutely certain this isn't the first time GSN has removed Match Game from its daily schedule.

Enjoy your evening, and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving!

It's a "Holiday Deep Dive" that will rotate shows all four weeks.

So far, only the first two weeks are announced.

PYL/Super Password/Card Sharks (Perry)/FF (Dawson) is week 1, in that order.

Password + (Ludden)/T4 (1990)/Card Sharks (Perry)/FF (Dawson) is week 2, in that order.

Weeks 3 and 4 have not been announced, but me thinks WoF and $25K PYRAMID (Clark) will be part of the "Deep Dive", as well as Card Sharks (Eubanks) and FF (Combs--uncertain if they will use CBS or syndie).

Interesting. It looks to me like this two-hour block of game shows will be temporary, at least for the holiday season. I was actually betting dollars to doughnuts that GSN was returning to its original roots, but now that Buzzr has become the primary destination for vintage game shows, it looks highly unlikely that GSN will ever add any of these aforementioned programs to its daily schedule.

Thanks for the info, SouthOKC. Enjoy your Hump Day and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

In past years they have also brought back a black and white block at 3 am during the holidays. This definitely had the original What's My Line?, and rotations of To Tell The Truth, Password, and I've Got a Secret.

Aw, shucks...I'd completely overlooked the fact that GSN once aired an hour-long--or was it two hours? (this ol' dawg's memory just ain't as razor-sharp as it used to be, presumably due to middle age)--block of black-and-white episodes of Password, What's My Line?, I've Got A Secret, and To Tell The Truth from the fifties and sixties during the wee small hours of the morning, just prior to signing off for the day.

Thanks for the info, stevea! Enjoy the remainder of your Hump Day, and have a safe and happy Thanksgiving weekend!

GSN, around 20 years ago, had a two hour b/w block at 3 am, where they rotated three shows, but WML was always at 3 am. They allowed 40 minutes for each show, presumably so they could show full episodes and get in tons of ads. This setup was on for a few years, since they went thru all 800+ WMLs that are available, at least once.

Even before that they had Sunday night blocks of these shows.

GSN picked a good week of Super Password to air. The celebrities this week will be Shelley Smith and Jamie Farr.

Shelley Smith is undoubtedly one of the greatest--and most intelligent (and obviously gorgeous)--game show panelists in the history of television game shows, bar none! Shelley's numerous appearances on such classics as The $25,000/$100,000 Pyramid, Body Language, Family Feud and the aforementioned Super Password are not only legendary but also unforgettable (you can watch many of Shelley's Pyramid episodes on YouTube, and see for yourself how brainy and cerebral she really is), and she's quite a fabulous dresser, to boot (Shelley is, after all, a former model turned actress); seeing Shelley wearing the latest fashions--namely her knee-high boots--always puts a big ol' smile on my face! I often wonder whatever happened to Shelley and why she ultimately walked away from the industry...in any case, I hope and pray that Shelley is doing well during these crazy and uncertain times.

As far as M*A*S*H alum Jamie "Klinger" Farr is concerned, there are absolutely no words whatsoever to describe his immortal stature in the game show pantheon...from The Gong Show to Tattletales to Celebrity Whew!, Jamie always managed to have a grand old time bringing smiles to millions of viewers watching both in the studio audience and on their idiot boxes at home while helping a few dozen contestants win a few bucks.

Thanks for sharing, icecream! Enjoy your evening, as well as the remainder of your week!

UPDATE: Week 3 is MG reclaiming the first hour, but with CS and FF in hour 2 (no mention if it's Eubanks or a 3rd week of Perry for CS, same with Dawson/Combs---ABC or CBS/syndie for FF).
