A friend left Nail polish on too long she said (3 weeks) and the stain transferred to her big toenail, the nail got dehydrated and the half that wasnt permanently stained black by the pinkish polish was white and chalky looking.

Her toenail finally split in two and she had to get it removed by a professional. Luckily the damage was only to one toenail. The damage can happen to fingernails too. It wasnt cheap polish,it was a major brand costing $9.00 a bottle I guess.

I thought Wawwie and Carole,etc... would benefit from knowing this just in case

I think it's great the way you are always concerned for others.

Did you ever watch that series on the A&E channel called "Toe Bro", stories of this licensed foot doctor operated on these patients who would bring in these horrid neglected feet with deformities, fungus, and amateur attempts gone wrong where people tried to fix their own toenail problems?

Man, I had no idea that feet can get so messed up just from neglect. Some of it was pretty gross, where someone would have an infected nail, all swollen up, and when the doc would lance it, pus would spray everywhere.

I also never realized there is a strict prohibition against "nail salon" technicians trying to cure diseased toe nails.

I'm thinking probably so many infections in the nails coming out of those manicure shops. I did a few in my life, and even succumbed to silk nail wraps in the 80's but they didn't last long...amazing how much influence these businesses have on people.... I have been polish free for at least 20 yrs. ah natural is where it's at.

Yes your nails need oxygen and yes your nails can go black. Only paint them occasionally. Give them air.

I haven't worn nail polish in years. Hearing it was bad for you with all the chemicals and toxins it contains.
