Default I agree with Florida in the African episode

In the episode "Thelma's African Romance", Thelma fell in love with African student Ibe and Ibe ask Thelma to move in with him which Florida didn't like to begin with. But then Ibe asked Thelma to marry him and move to Africa with him, and Florida said hell no even though she didn't know African men can take many wives.

I agree with Florida decision for not wanting Thelma moving to Africa although everybody else seem to be for it. In a foreign land, Thelma will lose all of family support and access. Florida knew it is a rough world out there and everything is not sugar and spice.

And at the end of episode where they found out Ibe can take many wives, Florida was proved right.

I was with Florida in that one--I didn't like him either. He seemed like a total phony.

I didn't like Ebay (however you spell his name) and I didn't like her boyfriend, Donald either. He was the old man pervert who proposed. I didn't like her husband, Keith either. The only boyfriend of Thelma's that I liked was Larry.

Of course Florida was right. The scripts got stale with forced controversies IMHO. Everyone fell for the African culture stuff but Florida had to put her foot down. We also get Florida's new boyfriend being an atheist and she threw a fit with him influencing Michael. We also get the stupid white woman ruining Thelma's play because of what another man wanted in the play. Michael fools a disabled girl on the radio and is confronted. The child abuser tricks to try and get Penny back, etc.

Especially how he was praising Willona when introduced

As a foreign student in foreign country, he seems to be too forward. In their first meeting, he put down Thelma for being a woman. That should have been the first warning sign for Thelma.

In the fifth season, Thelma also had a boyfriend who was married and was on parole. She was trying to hide him from everybody.

Thelma had JUST met Igbe and was already ready to marry him and move to AFRICA with him! I would have been alarmed too if I were Florida. It would have been different if Thelma had been dating Igbe for like 5 years and then was engaged to marry him and move to Africa, but Thelma had JUST met him. And Igbe has the nerve to be like,"You'll be the FIRST Wife, you'll get lots of privileges!" Thelma is from AMERICA where being legally married to more than one person at the same time is ILLEGAL. Of course Thelma wouldn't be all like,"I get privileges for being the first wife? Alright, let's get married!" Thelma even implies being the ONLY wife is best and she's right.
