Certainly they're cartoons. But, they were originally shown in primetime watched by adults as well as kids. These 2 shows were so huge in quality and appeal. Probably on a lot of posters list of all-time favorite shows. The 2 shows would get a lot more posts in the busier 60s sitcom section than buried here in less active cartoons. My 2¢ worth like when Barney Rubble gave his 2¢ worth.

I prefer to keep the cartoons/animated series organized in one section. I added redirects in the 1960s Sitcoms section to make them easier to find. Maybe it will increase the activity.

Right, I ready a book on television history and it said The Flintstones was the first animated (cartoon) primetime sitcom.

…but the influence of The Flintstones spawned at least *four* primetime cartoon series the very next season (1961-62): Top Cat (Hanna-Barbera), ABC Bullwinkle (Jay Ward Prods.), NBC, moving from afternoons as “Rocky & His Friends” on ABC Calvin & the Colonel (Kayro Prods.), ABC The Alvin Show (Format Films), CBS So, the market seemed to be out there, but only “Bullwinkle” survived for more seasons. I think I covered them all. Have I missed any for ‘61-62? cd |
