Default Matthew Perry Made Out With Valerie Bertinelli Right Next to Eddie Van Halen

Matthew Perry Made Out With Valerie Bertinelli Right Next to Eddie Van Halen (Who Was Passed Out at the Time)

The Friends star recalled the unrequited crush he harbored for his co-star on the short-lived sitcom, Sydney, in his upcoming memoir

MATTHEW PERRY’S UPCOMING memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, has already garnered a lot of pre-publication press for the harrowing tales Perry shares about his struggle with addiction and a near-death experience in 2018. But the book also boasts some juicy Hollywood anecdotes — like the time Perry made out with Valerie Bertinelli in front of her then-husband Eddie Van Halen (though it doesn’t seem like he was, uh, conscious enough to see it).

Four years before he was cast on Friends, Perry starred alongside Bertinelli on the short-lived sitcom Sydney (Bertinelli played the titular private eye, while Perry played her over-protective cop brother). Like so many in that era, Perry was head-over-heels for Bertinelli, tending to a heavy crush for someone he admits was not only “way out of my league” but also “married to one of the most famous rock stars on the planet, Eddie Van Halen.”

Perry insists his feelings for Bertinelli were so real that he “harbored elaborate fantasies about her leaving Eddie Van Halen and living out the rest of her days with me.” That, obviously, didn’t happen, but Perry says he got as close as he could one night while hanging at Bertinelli and Van Halen’s place.

“As the night progressed, it was clear that Eddie had enjoyed the fruits of the vine a little too hard, one more time, and eventually he just passed out, not ten feet away from us, but still,” Perry writes. “This was my chance! If you think I didn’t actually have a chance in hell, you’d be wrong, dear reader — Valerie and I had a long, elaborate make-out session… I told her I had thought about doing that for a long time, and she had said it right back to me.” (A rep for Bertinelli did not immediately return Rolling Stone’s request for comment.)

The thrill, however, was quickly gone. Perry says Bertinelli “made no mention” of the make-out the next day and was “behaving — as she should have been — like this was just a normal day.” While Perry says he “got the hint,” he was “devastated” inside and endured “many a tearful night” afterward. Relief finally came when Sydney was canceled, and he no longer had to see Bertinelli.

To put the perfect bow on this anecdote, Perry brought in a bit of Sigmund Freud, tying his unrequited crush to his issues with — you guessed it — his mother. “I have spent my life being attracted to unavailable women,” Perry writes. “It doesn’t take a psychology degree to figure out that this had something to do with my relationship with my mother.”

I’ll update if Valerie ever confirms or denies this ever actually happened.

So, trying to read between the lines here, I guess it happened?

Valerie Bertinelli responds to claims she kissed Matthew Perry next to passed-out husband Eddie Van Halen

Actor Valerie Bertinelli has responded on TikTok to claims that she and Matthew Perry once “made out” next to her passed-out husband.

On Wednesday (26 October), Bertinelli took part in a TikTok challenge based on Taylor Swift’s single “Anti-Hero”.

In the video, Bertinelli appears to reference the headlines from Perry’s book as she awkwardly grins and mouths the lyrics: “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem.”

“Anyone misbehave in their 20s and early 30s? Are you mortified?” she wrote, before putting her head in her hands.

One commenter wrote: “I saw the Matthew story this morning! You left an impression girl!! Good on ya,” to which Bertinelli responded with an emoji with its hands over its face.

It appears as if she admits it. I wonder if she'd admit to it if Eddie was still alive. Still, Wolfie must be upset with this.

By this point in his life Wolf must have known for a long time that both his parents have admitted to cheating on one another.

This incident is better because it only involved kissing (assuming that’s all that happened here), but worse because it involves another famous celeb going around telling the story and has dad passed out right there.

That's what I mean. It's a very unflattering story that sheds an unpleasant light on both of Wolfie's parents. I'm sure he doesn't want to hear about his mom's escapades while his dad is passed out drunk. He probably never knew about this incident until Perry made his tell all book. It makes Eddie look like a punk and Valerie like a tramp. I feel bad for Wolfie.

All quiet on his social media’s so far. I’ll let you know in here if he says something publicly.

I doubt he'll make mention of Perry's book, but if he does, yes, let me know. I'd be interested to know of his thoughts if he decides to share them.

Max was probably worse because Barbara was his sister-in-law and Mark was his friend. Max was a real slime ball in that episode.

opus, your new avatar of Matthew Perry and Valerie Bertinelli is kinda funny but it's also kinda sickening. It was VERY trampy of Val to make out with Matthew right beside her drunken, blacked out husband. It wouldn't be as icky if they were at least on the set of their show or somewhere other than Eddie's own home. I still adore Val, just find her interactions with Perry kinda trampy and icky and I see Matthew as super creepy now.

You have a point, but my sense of humor tends to run dark and subversive. Anyways, I usually post way less on the weekend, so it won’t be used much. I’ll dump it on Monday.

Perry did a prime time interview special tonight, promoting the book (I didn’t watch). I wonder if this story came up.

By the way, still no public reaction from Wolf.

Poor Wolfie. He's probably too embarrassed to make any kind of public statement regarding this.
As for Perry, he's the one who should be embarrassed. What a super creep! What was he hoping to accomplish? What was his end game? Disgusting. He befriends Eddie, makes himself at home in Eddie's house and then puts the moves on his wife! Pig! He is so gross to me now. What disturbs me most is that it was literally right under Eddie's nose and in his own home. I know that Eddie was a philanderer himself but at least he had the decency to keep it out of his marital home and also keep it mostly under wraps.

I'm guessing (or hoping) that Valerie cheated on Eddie as revenge for him brazenly cheating on her. At least that you could understand.
