Default 1967 The Jackie Gleason Show with Groucho Marx

Hey I found this episode online. The quality is pretty bad and it is in black and white.

Nice find!

It's actually from October 14, 1967.

Thanks! Where do you get jackie gleason show air date info? I've been compiling sketches of the various gleason characters but have no idea when some of them aired.

There's lots of online resources, all of varying degrees of quality. IMDB still kinda works. Best thing to do is search the show title, like "American Scene Magazine" in quotes, with the guest stars' names and see what sites have info. That's what I do when I get a program on video with no date attached (and, some of the discs and tapes I've gotten have had incorrect info right on the label).

Websites for Paley Center and others also have archive holding information that can be searched, though there holdings are often incomplete and could be catalogued incorrectly.

There used to be an online TvGuide archive (in progress) which was helpful but I think it's long gone, now.

It's all kinda hit-and-miss with searching, I guess, is what I'm suggesting.

I always enjoy when something rare and good turns up, like the HBO rip of Mr. Halpern and Mr. Johnson (which I'm surprised is still up!) on YouTube:

I have done similarly recording shows back in the '80's thru now and I am also surprised how nice it is for me today to watch shows I recorded years ago and can no longer see. Just today I watched my reordings of the New Beany & Cecil Show from 1988. Not as good as the '60's Beany but still enjoyable. I also have the Gleason shows on tape but now transferred to DVD you mentioned. I didn't have Big Sell though.

Likewise I have the same attitude. I also record audio tapes of old radio shows and of Jean Shepherd when he was still on the radio in the '70's. And rather than people you see trying to sell Shepherd collections that they never recorded themselves but copied from the internet I gave Mp3 copies of my own recorded Shep shows to a Jean Shepherd website with the promise he'd make them all available on his site for free. I gave him over 200 shows and to give him credit he has made 119 available, I wish he'd get the rest up. So I've taken matters into me own hands and on the podcast I've been doing I've introduced these Shep tapes and played them on the podcast all for free and no ads. I mainly feature old time radio shows but there's a wide variety of detective and Gildersleeve shows and mystery shows along with Jean Shepherd tapes. If you're interested, here's the podcast:

So I appreciate your spirit. I tried downloading your Big Sell show and it is in the mpeg format. I have only one request, when you make your shows available could you please make them available in the Mp4 format? As that is the easiest format to play on televisions via a thumbstick. Otherwise you're forced to use your computer to watch.

I think most of the Honeymooners sketches are commercially out there in some shape or form. I'm mainly looking for sketches with the other Gleason characters. I have no idea how many were actually produced.

Joe The Bartender (I have 20)
Reggie Van Gleason III (I have 17)
Poor Soul Fenwick Babbit (I have 12)
Rum Dum (I have 3)
Charlie Bratton (I have 7)
Rudy The Repairman (I have 4)
The Bachelor (I have 3)

Fantastic! I will be checking out the podcast on my weekends. Great to see material being shared "just becuz", rather than out of pure avarice. I gave up on trading and even asking for stuff, here at the trading thread, as folks just tend to want too much in return for the simplest things.

Interesting point about the video files. I try to post direct dvd rips to avoid re-compression and compromising quality. Ultimately, I thought it would be easiest for everyone if I just posted the VIDEO_TS folder and left it burn-ready for dvdr. I can rip/convert to other formats though. I just need to know what works across the board.

Using mainly Adobe Premiere and DvdFab for ripping and conversion, there are a number of codec options for mp4, avi (these come out too large!), mpg and the now popular mkv formats. Is mp4 a good, universal format that is compatible with most tv's? (I know mine chokes on some mkv and 4k rips, but the modded, all-region bluray player has played everything I've thrown at it).

Hi. Sorry it took so long, I've spent this time trying to convert the mpeg Big Sell file to an Mp4 file via the VLC thing. Well, after a long wait it wouldn't convert and now won't even play as a mpeg file on my computer. Yes, definitley, Mp4 is the format that is the best and easiest to play back on a TV via a thumbstick. Any other format and you have to try to convert them to Mp4 and good luck with that. I appreciate your sharing though, Mp4 files would be ideal.

I also gave up trading more than 10 years ago. I didn't like having to turn down trades with people who didn't have anything I wanted, as most of them only had newer shows and I wasn't interested in the new stuff. The couple shows left that I did want everyone didn't have and those that did wanted as you say 20 discs for one.

I use this program called makemkv when I want to convert a dvd folder. It makes mkvs. Handbrake is good for converting to mp4.

I use a nvidia shield android tv box or a roku ultra box to play my videos. They both have usb ports so you can plug in a hard drive. For the nvidia shield tv you need to download the vlc media player app. The roku ultra has a media player built in. They play any format.

Android tvs work too. Just download vlc media player

I'm using Adobe Premiere, currently. VLC has quit, for me. I get a half picture: top half is regular image stretched wide to half-height, bottom portion is all green macro-blocking and static. This is after re-installing, clearing settings and whatnot. Bleccch! It doesn't play Blurays, either, like some folks claim.

Default Success!!

Thank you very much, that last version of Big Sell worked perfectly and it didn't take 2 hours to download, just about 6 minutes.

I tried to private mail you but you're not available for private mail. So thank you again.

Ah, glad it worked this time. And, the encoding process took only about half an hour. Not bad!

I have to use the PM feature selectively to avoid the creepy stalkers from Stereo Central and Steve Hoffman forums-- just mentioning those places makes me feel "oogie"! Bleccchh!!!

Hey I found a website that has a bunch of Jackie Gleason show episodes. You have to be a member to watch anything and its not cheap. The site is good at cataloging the content per episode. There are no exact air dates but the years are present. I can at least put a year date on the segments I have.
