Default Mary was the only normal one of the whole group.

Everyone else is nuts one way or another.

Perhaps, though she had her moments where she "cracked"- and it made it even funnier when she did.

Billy was the normal one of the Tate’s. Benson was normal also and the voice of reason.

True! I loved how he was the one with the money towards the end. I’m rewatching and about to get to Saunders. I’m right at: Burt is dying and trying to get into the Guinness Book of World Records (SO 70s! ) Billy is dating his teacher, Mary is pregnant with the alien, Chester is cheating with the daughter of Higgins from Magnum PI at the sex addicts meetings, Eunice is constantly cheating on Dutch, Jody moved back home, Danny is in an interracial relationship with Polly and freaking out about what people think about it when they really don’t care, Jessica is blissfully naive about Chester but not for long, Corinne has the baby and is about to leave, and Chuck and Bob are there to crack off color jokes about it all.
