First off, I’ve been an avid fan since I was 13 years old and am now a grown adult with kids of my own. I’ve been rewatching the series on Rewind from the beginning. Over the past several years I’ve watched a couple on the channels it shows on or on DVD, but I’m fully watching now and fully enjoying (along with my kids). And at the near age of 37, this episode Sweet Sorrow hits so much differently than it did as a teenager.
First, as a teenager, I always thought Jo was an idiot for letting Eddie go and I though Eddie was an idiot to let Jo go. But now as an adult, they were way more mature than I ever was at that age. For Eddie to recognize that Jo was changing with her influences at Eastland and that they were drifting apart, that was incredibly mature. And he wasn’t jealous that she went on a date with Bob, didn’t even raise his voice. He recognized what was best for Jo was to set her free. And even as Jo basically resisted him trying to set her free, he pushed for it, still knowing that was best for her. Eddie was an insanely honorable and wise-beyond his years man, and I have the utmost respect for him. Second, as a teenager I never understood why Mrs. Garrett thought she’d enjoy keeping that ring around, that it’s just remind her of that heartbreak. But now as an adult, I hope she kept that ring for always. What a great memory for her! Anybody have similar change in their view depending on their age in watching this or other episodes? |

I didn't expect the Jermaine Jackson episode to be worth anything but it's actually quite interesting, both Tootie's mindless obsession and how she learns that Jermaine has nothing resembling a normal life, surrounded by his managers, security and countless fans just like Tootie.
