From Patty to Linda - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

The daughter of Marjorie Lord's character got a name change and child actress change between S 4 and 5. The daughter is Patty in Season 4 and then she is renamed Linda and played by Angela Cartwright for the duration.

Yes that's true. Good catch. I guess over the spring of 1957 before shooting season 5 that actress or the producers vetoed her out, and thank goodness as Angela was so perfect!

While some reference books say that the character was called “Patty” in her single season 4 appearance, I’ve seen that episode and they call her “Linda”. I imagine she was called “Patty” in the original version of the script and the TV listings got a synopsis that said “Patty”. But it was definitely “Linda” when they actually shot the episode.

As the TV listings have Patty and a couple of the reference books are known for a fact to have used the full Patricia, that must mean the change from Patty was made pretty late in the production of that episode?

Yep - I would assume that. Similarly, the TV listings for the “Kelly’s Kids” episode of “The Brady Bunch” to this day list Ken Berry’s character as “Jim Kelly” (as it was in the original script) as opposed to “Ken Kelly” as it become prior to shooting.

There's a piece of trivia I never knew. But there's an episode I avoid at all costs, too.
