I found an interesting (and lengthy) article regarding this case that was on a few days ago. I do think her boss is guilty, although he was acquitted of all charges. It says a witness called soon after the story was on UM and said he saw a man throw a woman over the balcony by her ankles. Also Salazar claims they had sex on the balcony but no dna evidence of that was found on her body to corroborate that. They did find blood on her sheets as well as his shirt. It seems more believable that she rejected his sexual advances and he killed her. What do you guys think?

It would seem that Salazar has something to answer for. There is no info I could find on the outcome of the civil case. Anybody know? I believe that Mike Cash, Salazar's attorney, is the same Houston attorney (Mike Cash) that "shut me up" in the Mary Morris case. I do not know of another in Houston.

Recently saw this S09 segment. Very tragic that not only was SO murdered, but that her family still has no justice re: this case.
It seems obvious who the killer is - too bad he's still walking around free. |

Please forgive my swiss cheese memory CD, but was this the segment in which a young lady was killed by going over her hotel balcony? I seem to recall LE running several tests by dropping a mannequin of the same height and weight from that balcony in an attempt to determine whether the victim was pushed or fell. (BTW, did you know that you can buy mannequins on Amazon? I guess they really do sell everything, lol).
If I am thinking of the right case, then yes CD, I've always believed the victim was pushed off the balcony after she refused the perpetrator's sexual advances. I wasn't aware that her boss had subsequently been acquitted at trial, so thank you for the update! While it's quite unfortunate that her poor family was denied justice, I am glad that at least the suspect in this case was actually brought to trial at all. I can't tell you how irritated I've been that the suspect in the Patti Adkins case (not covered by UM) has remained uncharged and free for going on two decades now. As the years continue to tick by, it's becoming harder and harder for me to believe that technology hasn't advanced enough to adequately test that small spot of blood. Okay, I'm done...I'll hop off my soapbox now. |

I was born and grew up in a neighboring city. This was in the news for a long time. Everyone in the local area was outraged. We thought her boss was guilty as sin. I wonder if he's dead yet himself. Only thing fitting for him.
He may have been more believable had he said they had consensual sex and he went back to his room. Didn't see her after that, and didn't know she was dead the next morning when he called her. But instead, being the stupid killer that he was, he said they had sex, made up some outrageous story about her accidentally falling, and then he walked out. The next day knowing she was dead he played dumb and called her asking "hey where are you?" Yeah. Suuuuuuure.

This is definitely an example of the system not working. What a shame for the family.

If I remember correctly, the UM update said that the jury found Salazar not guilty because there were no signs of a struggle in the room.
Hotel bar guests “witnessed” the 2 of them being very close, touching and kissing, but we all know how inaccurate eye witnesses can be. Struggle or no struggle I think Salazar has to be guilty. Only a guilty person 1) wouldn’t call the cops when she accidentally fell and 2( would call the room of her looking for her when they already knew where the victim lied dying. |

Agreed. The height of the balcony's railing in comparison to Orellana's height made Salazar's claim of an accidental fall unlikely, unfortunately the jury declined to convict.
