Default Chips bone the fish, jump the shark?

At what point does everyone feel that Chips jumped the shark/boned the fish?

Personally I like seasons one and two the best as they were the most focused on actual highway patrol duties/functions.

I love Bonnie in season three and four, but do you all feel like beginning with season three the show got sillier and less realistic?

Season 5 was the most boring IMO!! And I found the silliness of season 6 to be refreshing, and adding Bobby, who I like, and I got to like Bruce too. Sad that a lot of the cast members left, but the eps were fun, after boring eps in season 5!

Yeah it could be around season 3 with the many cast change turnarounds.

The many episodes that dealt with a one-off character only to never see them again.

The sorry attempts at series spin-offs with the two female officers and that idiotic Force Seven schlock.

The tired use of returning guest stars in different roles.

Then tired use of incorporating whatever trend was popular at the time.

And worst of all trying to make us think Bruce Jenner could ever replace Erik Estrada.

Yeah they both basically had the same personalities, there was no chemistry. I mean maybe they could have pared Steve with Grossman, now that would call for some really oddball hijinks.

I was just thinking how Ponch was really silly in season 1 before Grossie came to be the CHP clown! How about the two of them being partners? The show would be more geared towards comedy than a serious cop show! LOL!!!

Indeed it had! I recently purchased that third release, and thought that it would be sure enjoyment, but it seems that it might be one of the very few regrets of mine.

Yeah I thought so too that Ponch early on was a bit too much of a goofball almost in a childish immature way that didn't seem professional for a person of law enforcement, he sort of toned it down a bit after Jon Baker left.

But then in season 6 they sort of made Grossie even more of a goof with his plots revolving some sort of hairbrained scheme.

The Chippies jumping from plane to plane mid flight was the beginning but the full shark jump was the highway patrol protecting a cute teenage girl from UFO abduction.
