Default Regarding Those '70s Sideburns on Emergency

Those long sideburns, seemingly all the male actors wore on the show, were very distinctive. Firemen Gage, DeSoto, Kelly and Dr. Joe Early all sported long sideburns during the tv show’s six-year run. But, the most prominent set of sideburns was worn by actor Robert Fuller in the role of Dr. Kelly Brackett. His sideburns were extremely extra-long, to say the he least.

I wonder if Mr. Fuller ever looks at an episode of “Emergency” and says to himself, “Jesus, I should have trimmed those ugly-@ss sideburns back during the 1970s!”?

PS I happened to see a first-year episode of the show the other day. All of the firemen have short haircuts and no sideburns, even the later bushy-haired Chet Kelly. They all looked much better without all of that facial hair.

As to the overly hirsute Fireman Kelly, with that long hair, long sideburns and bushy moustache of his, old Chet later looked like the identical twin brother of the late comedian/actor Avery Schreiber .

Even Dr. Kelly Brackett, with long sideburns and thick, black hair over the tops of his ears in the early episodes, he wasn’t as nearly scruffy-looking as the good doctor looked during the later years of
“Emergency.”

Long sideburns, flared pants/bell bottoms, big collars, wide ties--it was all horrible!

Can you imagine if Wally, Eddie and Lumpy decided to wear long sideburns on LITB in 1963, just like Elvis Presley wore back then? Ward and June Cleaver would have had a fit!

Do these strangers have sideburns? I cannot tell they move so fast, like a yo-yo.

The medium length sideburns like Glen Campbell wore looked the best back in the 70's. The real long ones make me think of a werewolf.

Actor David Selby always wore long sideburns on “Dark Shadows.” When Selby first appeared as the malevolent ghost of Quentin Collins on the show, he didn’t speak for his first couple of months on DS. He also wore fake sideburns until his own sideburns looked good.

Jonathan Frid (originally vampire Barnabas Collins on DS) wore long sideburns, when he starting portraying the insufferable Bramwell Collins, shortly before the revered gothic soap was cancelled in 1971. I always thought it was “remarkable” that Mr. Frid’s trademark short-haired with bangs, Barnabas Collins hair style could morph, almost overnight, into the long and flowing hair style of the obnoxious Bramwell?

The long ones look like arms coming off the side of the face.
