Movie "A Christmas Story Christmas" Set for Nov. 17th on HBO Max

A Christmas Story Sequel, with Original Film Stars, Gets HBO Max Release Date
by Ryan Schwartz
August 24 2022

Ralphie’s coming home for the holidays. A Christmas Story Christmas, a sequel to the 1983 cult classic A Christmas Story, will be released Thursday, Nov. 17 on HBO Max,

The ’70s-set movie sequel, which hails from screenwriter Nick Schenk (Gran Torino, Cry Macho), will see original child actor Peter Billingsley, now 51, reprise his role as Ralphie Parker. He’ll be joined by fellow original film stars Ian Petrella (Randy), Zack Ward (Scut Farkus), Scott Schwartz (Flick) and R.D. Robb (Schwartz).

The cast also includes Erinn Hayes (Kevin Can Wait) as Ralphie’s wife, River Drosche (Miracle Workers) and Julianna Layne (Prodigal Son) as their son and daughter, and Julie Hagerty (Airplane!), who is reportedly playing Ralphie’s mom — a role originally played by Melinda Dillon.

In A Christmas Story Christmas, an adult Ralphie “returns to the house on Cleveland Street to deliver his kids a magical Christmas like the one he had growing up,” according to the official logline.

With the same attention-to-real-life tone of the first, Ralphie reconnects with childhood friends, reconciles the passing of his Old Man and sows the seeds for the origins of the beloved holiday classic.

Since it's debut in theaters in 1983 A Christmas Story has become one of the popular holiday movies of all time becoming popular again when TNT and TBS began their traditional 24-hour marathons of A Christmas Story on Christmas Eve and running through Christmas. And so with the new sequel A Christmas Story Christmas debuting on HBO Max in November it is sure to be a holiday hit for this year. As many people know there has been already a sequel called A Christmas Story 2 that features Ralphie as a teenager. So I think HBO Max has a smart idea to do more movies of A Christmas Story as time goes by. I think this sequel will be the same storyline but feature Ralphie's kids and be just as funny too. I'll bet they will recreate the famous ending scene where they go out for Chinese food and while they eat "Chinese turkey" the waiters try to serenade them with Deck The Halls but the waiters can't figure out how to sing the song correctly. That part in A Christmas Story is my favorite part

Fantastic Christmas movie, one we never miss watching each December.

Bob Clark directed two Christmas classics- A Christmas Story and Black Christmas.

The previous Christmas Story 2 was junk.
We've already had several films featuring a teenage Ralphie- The Phantom of the Open Hearth (1976), The Great American Fourth of July and Other Disasters (1982; with Matt Dillon playing Ralph), and Ollie Hopnoodle's Haven of Bliss (1988; with Jerry O'Connell playing the role)

Phantom Of The Open Hearth featured the leg lamp several years before A Christmas Story as it was based on some of the same stories written by Jean Shepherd.

I love A Christmas Story but I can't imagine this not sucking, because they all do.
