Xanadu
With the death of Olivia Newton-John...has the film Xanadu gotten more play on streaming devices?
I think the film is a "so bad that it's actually good"...just like The Wiz or the 1967 Casino Royale. |

I have never figured out how in the heck Xanadu became a hit movie in the first place because I think the only reason why Xanadu became a classic film at the time was because they wanted to make Olivia Newton-John a big time movie star after her success in Grease and they thought that Xanadu would have the same staying power as Grease did. But I think in my opinion ELO gave the film a huge boost at the box-office because ELO was a top band in the 70's and since people knew ELO from the songs Telephone Line Mr. Blue Sky and Strange Magic they knew that appearing in a movie with Olivia Newton-John would boost their popularity. But if it wasn't for Xanadu roller skating would not become popular in the 80's. I saw Xanadu once with my mom and she thought it was okay but not great. But Olivia shined on the soundtrack well with Magic and the title song and the Cliff Richard duet Suddenly becoming smash hits

Too bad Lynne and Gary Brooker from Procol Harum only worked together with The Concert For George. |

Michael Beck, who was hot off of The Warriors at the time, was quoted saying "'The Warriors' opened a lot of doors in film for me, which 'Xanadu' then closed."
In more recent years he said that it's a "cult classic" of sorts and is glad that there are people that enjoy it. His career never took off. |
