Dan Levy is celebrating his 39th birthday today. He is pictured above with his father, actor and comedian Eugene Levy.

The Levys were the co-creators of the acclaimed Canadian Sitcom Schitt’s Creek. At the 2020 Primetime Emmy Awards, the show won a long list of Emmys for its final season. Dan Levy became the first person ever to win Emmys for acting, directing, producing and writing in the same year.



Levy was born and grew up in Toronto, Canada. He studied at York and Ryerson Universities, and began his television career as a host for MTV Canada’s MTV Live and The After Show. He made his acting debut in the TV movie Degrassi Goes Hollywood.

Levy starred with Mischa Barton on a Lifetime movie, Cyberstalker, and had a supporting role in the rom-com Admission. More recently, he played Kristen Stewart’s friend in the holiday lesbian romance Happiest Season.

Levy and his father started a production company, Not a Real Company Productions, in 2013. The pilot for Schitt’s Creek was their first project. In addition to his Emmy honors, the series brought Levy seven Canadian Screen Awards for producing, directing and writing, and a Golden Globe last year for Best Series–Musical or Comedy.

Last year, Levy received his latest Emmy nomination, for a guest appearance on Saturday Night Live.

Levy should not be confused with the American comedian, actor and writer Daniel Levy, the creator of NBC’s Indebted.
