The Nielsen ratings for episode "An Anniversary Surprise" that aired on March 13, 1979, made Three's Company the most watched TV show in Television History, The episode was watched by more than 70 Million people in nearly 30 million homes. Of all the homes in the country with a TV set, 38.5% saw atleast part of the show. (The News and Observer, March 22, 1979)

The season 2 episode "Chrissy's Date" aired on Thursday night on October 13, 1977 because it was pre-empted on Oct 11, 1977 for World Series baseball...........(The News Journal, October 13. 1977).

Most of season 2 of Three's Company didnt air in the city of Orlando, Florida because the local ABC affiliate wanted to delay the ABC sitcom Soap that aired after Three's Company on Tuesday Nights. ABC denied the station's permission to delay Three's Company to another time so the show was
pre-empted along with Soap. ABC eventually decided not to air SOAP in Orlando and Three's Company returned to the schedule for Orlando viewers.

Those were the days of only 3 choices ABC, NBC or CBS. Almost 40% of TV watchers watched Threes Company and to see the Ropers last show.

That's the episode where Stanley sells the apartments right? I wonder how much "word of mouth" had to do with it. I'm sure it leaked out that they were getting their own show.

yes the anniversary surprise first and then the 1st ep of the Ropers aired right after
