Question Best Written Sitcom?

Which sitcom's writing team can still make you gasp at its audaciousness and clever repartee?

Frasier. I wouldn't call it "audacious" but it was VERY well written.

The Dick Van Dyke Show would also classify as one of the best written sitcoms. Carl Reiner didn't allow the writers to use "contemporary slang" so the show would not be dated in reruns.

Agreed. It's also the bedrock for the sophisticated writing that followed, including Mary Tyler Moore, Bob Newhart (both shows), Barney Miller, WKRP, Taxi, Cheers, and Frasier.

I always thought that "The Flintstones" was the "bedrock" for the series that followed.

Shows you what I know!

I would add "Green Acres" to that list of well-written series. It couldn't have been easy for anybody to put together the various verbal and sight gags each week that accounted for the unusual and warped atmosphere that surrounded every episode. I thought the writers did a great job and were heavily underrated for their work.

What?!?

How I Met Your Mother and 2 Broke Girls didn't make anyone's list?

I'm shocked! Shocked, I say!
