Vinton and Naomi were not in it? Let’s say that they got written out of the series and replaced by Mama’s brother, Clyde and a male neighbor of hers, would you still watch?

Mama’s brother Clyde was mentioned a few times throughout the series. But Vinton’s friend was named Claude Cainmaker.

Oh, that's right! Thanks for the correction. I wrote that at work so I was kind of rushed when I wrote it.

Still don't remember Mama mentioning Clyde, though.(I'll have to listen more closely I guess)

Vint and Naomi were such an integral part of the show, as much as Thelma, that I can't imagine Mama's Family in any form without them.
Even the change in casts between the NBC and syndicated years demonstrated the show could work with or without anybody else. Vint, Naomi and Thelma were untouchable to me.
