Default Beverly Garland's 1970s Hairstyles

Part I: 1970-72, in a look at Beverly Garland in one of her most exciting decades.

As the '70s begin, Beverly as Barbara has gone to the following
hairstyle, shorter than her Season 10 M3S ponytail and somewhat
darker in color. From a Season 11 publicity photo with Dawn Lyn,
for the fall of 1970:

Size: 48.7 KB

As we go toward Season 12, 1971-72, we find a beautiful photo
revealing a return to longer length:

Size: 342.9 KB

We see that Beverly is employing a single barrette at the back of
her head to keep her long tresses in place (half-ponytail), a very
nice way to wear her hair in Season 12. Such an attractive length:

Size: 139.5 KB

Next we see how Beverly looks in a 1972 TV movie "Say Goodbye,
Maggie Cole." A no-fuss style:

A gorgeous 1972 appearance on Marcus Welby, MD -- so attractive:

Part II, 1974-79

As we move to the mid-1970s, here's Beverly in a 1974 TV movie titled "Unwed Father."
Note the cute hoop-style earrings with this elegant long-length style:

Size: 1.17 MB

Beverly is now wearing bangs in her 1975 appearance on
The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Note the upward sweep of the ends:

Size: 130.8 KB

From that same MTM episode, this small side view with Ed Asner
reveals how Beverly has retained long length, with great fullness:

Size: 37.3 KB

From the 1977 M3S / Partridge Family reunion special, a great look at Beverly's sweeping long style.
The ends are nicely curled and her hair has great body. She has grown her bangs out and is wearing
small earrings. Really I think she looks very lovely:

Beverly has cut her hair by the time of the 1979 film "Roller Boogie." This style
draws attention to her beautiful eyes:

Absolutely stunning in this photo from that time. I really love Beverly's look:

Yes, she is a very attractive woman. She also starred in the Kate Jackson hour long drama "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" in the mid to late 1980s.

My favorite is the second color picture. A truly beautiful woman!

In a season 12 episode of "Sons", "The Enthusiast", she is shown in a very funny and competitive sequence of Charades. The enthusiasm is taken from her earlier game show appearances, and like I said, it's a funny episode. Someday I'd like to see the full episode not chopped up, as it is on TV, but that may never happen.

Here's Beverly with Betty White on a episode of The Pet Set, originally airing July 1, 1971 (between seasons 11 & 12 of M3S). In the first image, I like how Beverly's hair is entering her left eye, and the waves are very nice:

Great smiles in the next 2 images. It's interesting to
see Beverly wearing so much jewelry, of course it
would've been highly unusual to have Barbara on M3S
displaying multiple necklaces and wearing a floor-length
skirt...! Remarkably long necklace seen here, and also
a very large cross:

Beverly looks particularly hot in this next image,
with her sweeping tresses. Really lovely:

Size: 97.7 KB

Here we have Beverly again with Betty on an episode of Baffle that aired May 7, 1973, with host Dick Enberg - so obviously after M3S had ended. Looking closely by her collar, we see the nice long length of Beverly's hair, with its pretty waviness:

Game show gigs can be interesting as the actors are not under any constraints as to how to dress, unlike the series work in which they usually need to stay in character as far as appearance.

Strangely in the pic with Dawn Lyn she looks like she's wearing a lace front wig even though her hair is shorter there than in any of the other pics. The Mary Tyler Moore hairdo is a wig. If you've seen that episode, you'd know why it's not her hair.

Beverly's hair was consistently in the style seen with Dawn in Season 11 of M3S -- all season long, so I would not be shocked if that were a wig. I do agree that of her 3 seasons, that's the most likely one where the look could well've been achieved with a wig.

Thanks for confirming the Mary Tyler Moore Show wig -- the more I looked at it, her hair did look unusual, especially seeing her with bangs. I have no memory of that ep, I'll be on the lookout for it.

I was just noticing in the Baffle photo above, Enberg is getting pretty adventurous with his right hand... I don't blame him, that must've been quite a nice "feel"... !!

I've also wondered whether her S11 M3S appearances were a wig (bad sentence, but you get it). Now I'm more sure.

I know I've commented before but that second pic in the red dress is captivating. Kind of a Mona Lisa smile.

I believe this interview is from the same season as the picture with Dawn Lyn. The video looks like its her real hair and the style is similar to the picture. I guess she wore a wig on the show because it made for less hastle with the MacMurray method filming style.

Probably, and she got sick of it and ditched it for season 12.

Also the MacMurray method got a little hosed in season 12. Barbara was talking to Steve in one outfit and they cut to another scene and she had another one on. It could have been the filming method, or a scene chopped out with all the bad editing of syndication episodes in that season.

Such a shame to have Beverly appear in wigs when her natural hair was so nice.

Here are some more images from the 1970s. The first 2 are from
Airport 1975 (a 1974 film):

Name: 1118full-airport-1975-screenshot.jpg
Views: 163
Size: 57.3 KBName: 6330-357.jpg

Size: 546.6 KB

Name: 453347.jpg
Views: 172
Size: 38.4 KB

As everyone knows I'm very much into long hair for women,
but this shorter style complements Beverly's face so well --
I just find her so attractive with this haircut:

Name: 6330.jpg
Views: 216
Size: 51.9 KB

These next 2 are from the interview video jamesanthony linked to
in this thread, in which Beverly talks about scenes that have been
filmed for M3S Season 11, so 1970:

Name: Screenshot (380).png
Views: 172
Size: 631.1 KB

Name: Screenshot (382).png
Views: 172
Size: 416.8 KB

There are just 3 words I keep repeating to myself, seeing Beverly
in such a short dress: oh - my - God
