Just curious because I’m watching an episode of The Golden Girls right now where one of Dorothy’s lesbian friends, Jean, admits to Rose that she likes her, and Rose becomes all nervous.

BTW: I realize that I’m mentioning The Golden Girls in a Chit Chat board but the episode made me bring up this question, so I’m hoping that this thread doesn’t get moved.

I'd feel obligated to give them the same treatment that I've been given by women I was attracted to, who wanted no part of a relationship with me.

"Oh, since it would BE SO UNFAIR TO YOU to maintain and arms-length friendship, I think it would be best if we put as much distance between us as possible."

Now Jean knew that Rose was heterosexual so why in the world would she tell Rose that she fell in love with her? What was she hoping to accomplish? All it would do is make Rose uncomfortable which is exactly what happened when Rose pretended to be asleep and snoring when Jean confessed. What was Jean's end game? I think she should have kept it to herself. There was no reason to profess her love to Rose.

Unlike Babalu, I would not physically harm some woman who told me she had a crush on me. If it was a new friendship and she didn't know that I'm heterosexual, then I wouldn't even care. On the other hand, if she definitely knew that I'm heterosexual, I would end the friendship.

I don’t know why Jean even said a word to Rose about it, but if I were Rose and had someone of the same sex tell me they were in love with me, questions WOULD be asked. That’s if they knew about me being straight, now if they didn’t, I’d simply tell them that I was heterosexual, it’s no big deal. That’s a much better way of handling it anyways instead of the typical straight man “Get-Your-Ass-Away-From-Me” paranoia bullsh*t.

I believe she said liked instead of in love, sorry Miss Caroline. Anyways, Dorothy didn’t want to tell the girls about Jean being gay because she didn’t know how they would feel about that. But Jean ended up liking Rose (I think she told Dorothy this), and decided to tell her that. At the end they are on good terms anyway.

I suppose,...if it was close to the holidays, I might bait him along long enough to get a few nice gifts, all at arms length of course. Then once he pressed I'd have to let him down easy, perhaps explaining that my girlfriend was phobic.

Exactly. I have two male homosexual friends and neither of them would ever "hit on" a guy that they knew was heterosexual.
