I disagree with those reviews, it was an above-average sitcom -- considering how funny Lynde was. I enjoyed it a lot, especially the episode where the young sexpot woman is hot for his character.

Thanks for the list of facts.

It was right up there with Mash so you would think the show would get one more shot

The show had potential. It ran too much like a play instead of a sitcom. The constant set ups for Lynde got old. His family characters barely had any depth. They were just tokens to set Paul up for the next laugh. The show could have worked if they spent time developing characters instead of making Paul the center square and the only one allowed to get laughs. It had a good premise a hippy daughter and son in law live inside his home. But it sort of was an All In The Family rip off.
It was decent but when the writers only write laugh line after laugh line instead of developing characters, those shows never make it. This show reminded me of Lotsa Luck. The writing, the lack of depth of the characters except for the lead actor.

The show WAS Lynde. They probably needed another regular so he alone wouldn't have had to carry the show.

The show essentially was a play with its three camera setup, which was new for Screen Gems. I wonder why they picked that format.
