This show really liked to experiment with new and unusual storylines sometimes. Ones that come to mind are "Mr. Beal Meets His Match", when Jim comes face-to-face with the devil, and "Formula For Happiness", when a mysterious man with supernatural powers appears to be stalking the Andersons.
Granted, these were mostly dream sequences, but they were fun to watch just the same. One of the many reasons I love this show is how the writers were so inventive in telling the stories. Are there any more out-of-the-ordinary episodes you can think of? |

I thought it was interesting to see Rita Moreno in the role of an Indian exchange student trying to fit in with the Andersons and their somewhat awkward attempts to fit in with her.

I liked the one where they all listened to the short wave/ham radio and saved the family at sea. Also good was getting marooned on the island

The short wave episode is probably the most well-known in the series; it's a very unusual episode for a sitcom.
FKB had a really good staff of writers, and it showed most of the time. |

I assumed the voices of the family at sea were the voices of the Andersons, they certainly sound like them.

I also like the one where the TV goes out while they're watching a mystery show and they decide to act out their own mystery story. I love their unusual episodes too. And they came up with some great ones. It was a very inventive series.
Oh yeah, and the epiode where young Bud and Kippy want to become writers, travel, and write about it. So they want to go to a nearby town. Then Kippy backs out, but Bud goes by himself. |

Yes, the mystery was a good episode. Very well done. Short wave as well. I don't know that the Andersons did the voices though.

I thought the Season 5 episode "Betty, the Pioneer Woman" with guest Dick York was pretty unusual.

Probably the most unusual episode was "Stage to Yuma," a season 2 episode without the normal cast, other than Robert Young. It's a western, and not often seen in syndication. It was on the GAC Family brief run.

I have it on my DVDs but cannot get interested enough to get past the first few minutes so I have never seen it.

Yes, I remember him on a Hazel episode, where he played a restaurant chef or maybe owner, whose pregnant wife went into labor upstairs.

I saw him on My Favorite Martian also, I think it was. On Andy Griffith Show he was a member of the gypsy family passing through town. |
