Question The Phyllis Diller Show theme song

AKA, the Pruitts of Southampton, this show had Vic Mizzy as its composer. The fellow who did the Addams Family theme song! O, Joy! I can't recall this theme, but I bet I really enjoyed it!

fact: this show was based on the novel "House Party" by the author of "Auntie Mame," Patrick Dennis ( nome de plume of Edward "Pat" Tanner ), a book which is SO excellent, and really contemporary! I recommend it. I'm going to hunt for all of his books.

Default Actually...

....there were TWO themes for Phyllis' 1966-'67 series, both composed by Vic Mizzy: one for "THE PRUITTS OF SOUTHAMPTON" (with lyrics), and the other for "THE PHYLLIS DILLER SHOW" (a frantic theme with no lyrics) in the second half of that season.

Lightbulb Pruiits of Southampton title You Tube

Here is a link to the You Tube capture of the opening:

I DID love this show!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gL3vX-62z1k

[ she begins each entrance in a new outfit, on her grand staircase ]

Phyllis: "Howd'you do, Howd'you do, Howd'you do, my dear. What a lovely surprise, nice to see you dear."

Reginald Gardiner: "All the bills have been long overdue, my dear." [ hands her a sheaf of bills ]

Phyllis: "File them under I.O.U. [ tears them up, and tosses them into the air ]
[ Re-enters wearing a sparkly dress ] "Howd'you do, Howd'you do, Hello! It's you! Got my best, got my jewels, aren't they MARVE-Y-POO?!"

Young blonde girl [Pam Freeman? ]: "They belong to the Internal Revenue."

Phyllis: "And they got us eating stew!" [ or shoe? ]

Chorus: "The Pruitts of Southampton is like the richest folk
But what the folk don't know is that the Pruitts are flat broke!"

Phyllis: [ wearing new striped dress ] "Howd'you do, Howd'you do, Howd'you do, my dear."

Reginald Gardiner: 'We are out of champagne, and I'm stuck, my dear."

Phyllis: "Ask the butler to lend you a buck, my dear. Howd'you do, Howd'you do, Howd'you do!"

Song by Vic Mizzy, of Addams Family fame
