This probably doesn't really count since the competitors name wasn't mentioned, but NBC once took and shot at ABC via a Taxi promo.

I remember that one. The move didn't work out as well as NBC had hoped.

It's an interesting thread idea. I would have thought there would be more examples of friendly trash talking between rival networks and shows in promos.

Murder, She Wrote did an entire episode mocking Friends called "Murder Among Friends" in 1996. CBS had moved it opposite Friends on Thursday nights for what would be their final season.

These ones aren't exactly on topic, but I came across them on searches. Maybe it could include parody promos.

Baby Talk did a Siskel & Ebert parody in 1991.



3rd Rock from the Sun did one in 1999 poking fun at the long gap between Return of the Jedi and The Phantom Menace.



According to Jim and Less Than Perfect did a crossover promo skit in 2003.

I could be totally wrong on this one, but I think I recall seeing a promo once in the 90's on NBC for E.R. where they sort of alluded to a rivalry with CBS's "Chicago Hope" and called themselves "the best medical drama on Thursday nights" or something like that...

I don't know about promos, but CBS would occasionally throw in digs about Johnny Carson in their prime time lineup during his reign as the king of late night TV.

I remember one on Rhoda. Rhoda's parents were discussing their money problems while lying in bed. Nancy Walker says, "You want to watch Johnny?". Harold Gould replies "Right now I don't want to watch a guy who makes $3 million a year."

I really believe CBS writers were encouraged to take pot shots at Johnny in an effort to discourage viewers from watching him.

The 100th episode hoedown is the one I remember best, with Drew's verse ending "All you who've been watching Friends, you can kiss my ass."

Conversely though, he (or his voice at least) was on The Mary Tyler Moore Show, so CBS wasn't above using him to get some prime time ratings.
