Default Does anybody else not care for the episode where James dies anymore?

Because back in 1976 no one new that James was going to get killed off, so lots a people figured that The Evanses were really going to move out of the ghetto. So with that being said, I just can’t stomach this episode much anymore.

I hate this episode because its officially when the show jumps the shark. The show tried and failed to fill in James's void but it did not work. I did not like Penney and JJ became less funny. I think they tried to make him almost a father figure. Worse yet Bookman's character got much more airtime after James. Damn Damn Damn

What a cruel way to tell the family. No phone call, no door visit from the police. I cant imagine receiving a letter (telegram) telling of such a tragedy. They should have made James turn gay and run off with another man

I rarely watch it or the ‘funeral episode’. It makes me want to curse out Norman Lear. Instead of ‘Damn, Damn, Damn’, it’s three ‘Fock you’s’!

I was saying that in a future sitcom, (2.5 Men) John Amos actually DID...

It was the beginning of the end... There were a few good episodes after James died, but not many.... I didn't like the episodes when Florida left

I remember someone saying something like,"When People are having such a good time, tragedy is sure to strike soon." He mentioned going to a party where everybody was having such a good time, he had a feeling something really bad was going to happen soon and it did. The Family hosting the party ended up getting murdered that very night. Chilling stuff!

I cant think of another show where one cast member being removed had such an impact on the show. James was so essential to the show. Strong father figure and was the anti-Willona which was comic relief. Willona and JJ no longer had their foil. Florida's banter with James was also missed. Perhaps it would have been better to recast him like Bewitched and Roseanne.
